Lupe Tortilla is a great place to eat and very family friendly. They are a family favorite when we come to visit our cousins in College station. There is a lot of funky Latin decor giving it a fun atmosphere. They have an ice cream freezer in the front with a large selection of ice creams. They have a dedicated pick up station in the front near the hostess desk station. They have a small bar area. In the back is where the family friendly space is located. Outside they have put a lot of effort into creating an amazing outdoor space. There is a multi level deck with a porch roof and a few tables that are not under cover but they have umbrellas. In addition they have portable fans - critical in this part of Texas. But on the side yard they have created a fantastic sandbox play area with four small rollercoasters and two play houses. Parent all supervision is obviously a must but it is so nice for kids to play while waiting for food. We have a 3 year old and we meet up with our cousins who have 6 kids. A table on the porch allows all the adults to visit and all the kids to play. And The Lupe Tortilla has parents covered with a small outdoor wash station with foot washing sink to rinse your kids off if they need it by the back door. The landscaping is nice and the back porch is the place to go if you have kids and like Mexican food. We had their fajitas and they are tasty!

My 4 year old wanted to go to McDonald's and I should've just went there! We stopped here for a late lunch. We waited 15 minutes before a server finally came and took our drink order and we ordered a large queso. He came back and brought us the smallest queso ever and then I ordered flour beef fajita quasadillas with sautéed bell peppers and onions in it and sour cream on the side. Then i ordered my son chicken strips and fries from the kids menu. 40 minutes later, he brought my food out... only my food! Forgot to even place my son's order! My tortillas were corn instead of flour and he forgot the sour cream. He then went to place my son's order so I had to sit my food aside so I wouldn't be eating in front of him disrespectfully so my food got cold. (I didn't realize they were made with corn tortillas till after my son got his food 15 more minutes later or I would've got him to correct it.) So i asked for two boxes and scraped all of the insides of my quasadillas in a box and took his food to go since it was so hot that he couldn't eat it. Overall the place was decorated nice and I had high hopes for it but the service was horrible and also ruined us having the correct food which ruined the food as well for us. Nightmare of an experience. Also, he never came to check on our drinks or if we were okay or anything. We had to stop him as he was walking by.

This place is a "best-place" only if you have kids and want them to play while adults eat, and have a couple drinks!!! How does a "mexican restaurant" screw up the chips and Salsa. The chips are soooo thin you can see through them and they break with each dip and the Salsa is basically tasteless diced tomatoes. See picture: Albeit the rest of the Food is basically ok, not great. Do not ask for anything off menu, substitutions no problem with only some servers, other servers simple ignore the request. , Got kids eat in the back great kids area. Decent margaritas, well drinks and ice-cold beer. Large group, no worry, pull tables together. Parking is easy. The server Eddie never got anything wrong, and my friends would change order on the fly! This is my go-to place with grandkids but not a great meal on any level as an adult night out, or anyone really interested great food. The food is a solid "OK", period. The place is loved by many locals for a reason, so go off times or plan on a wait, regardless many people love it, I do not get it but hey if you got kids, then it's a go.

Restaurant Review: lupe tortilla

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)

Service: ★★★★☆ (4/5) The service at lupe tortilla was commendable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and prompt in taking our orders. They made us feel welcome and were quick to address any requests we had, which enhanced our overall dining experience.

Food: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the standard set by the service. The portions were disappointingly small, leaving us feeling unsatisfied after our meal. For a Tex-Mex restaurant, I expected more generous servings that reflect the hearty nature of this cuisine.

Additionally, the quality of the food was lacking. The flavors were underwhelming, and some dishes seemed to be poorly executed. The plating was sloppy, which detracted from the overall appeal of the meal. A visually appealing presentation can elevate the dining experience, but here it felt rushed and careless.

Atmosphere: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) The ambiance of the restaurant was decent, with a casual vibe suitable for a Tex-Mex eatery. However, the overall experience was overshadowed by the food quality. A more inviting atmosphere can only go so far without good food to back it up.

Conclusion: While lupe tortilla has potential, particularly with its attentive service, the food quality and presentation need significant improvement. I hope they can refine their menu and focus on providing better portion sizes and a more appealing presentation to match the quality of their service. Until then, I may look for other Tex-Mex options that offer a more satisfying...
