The ice cream was solid, but they have a Starbucks tax on people with a dairy allergy, which made it the most expensive/smallest scoop I've ever purchased (Seriously, it was literally half the cup. I get that the staff weighs it, but the presentation makes it look as if one is seriously cheated.) There are many other joints in the world with equally good ice cream that don't punish individuals with food allergies, so patronize them instead.
PS If you own this place, you needn't bother to reply. I travel frequently, so I try different places all across America, and your shop is the first one that I've ever encountered that charges extra for "Dairy Free" ice cream. No excuse exists, so please, no explanation is necessary.
Edit: I don't understand why the establishment responded without addressing my explicit issue with it-- Respectfully, stop charging people with dairy allergies more than others. Distribute the extra costs across the entire menu (You're not going to start charging people who need ADA accommodations more for each scoop because of genetic differences despite the necessary modifications made to the retail space, are you?). We're all in this as a species together, so let's not create unnecessary divisions (And let's not even get into the true cost of dairy with its effects on the environment, animals, human health, etc., which we all share as a society.) Please no more unhelpful responses that only attempt to mollify other potential customers, who may be dissuaded by this review, but in no way try to correct the...
Read moreI’ve been coming to josh and johns for at least two years now and it has been my favorite ice cream in the Springs, until tonight. After waiting in line for at least 20 minutes and making it just past the entrance, I decided to use the ‘grab and go’ option as there would be at least another 20 minutes before making it to the counter. The line has always been very slow as long as a I can remember, but the ice cream is worth the wait. I got two pints of my favorite flavors, chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter cup. Self service was quick and easy; I was on my way out before the line had moved. After eating the chocolate chip cookie dough (yes, I make bad choices and have no self control) I realized that there wasn’t a single piece of cookie dough lol. Not only that, but the the ice cream wasn’t as good as what you get at the counter. The stuff at the counter is thick, rich and creamy; it almost stretches it’s so good, but the prepackaged pint stuff was comparable to the bottom shelf Safeway offerings. I don’t know if the specific batch was a miss or what, but I will not be buying the pre packaged ice cream again. I do not want a refund or a replacement, I just want good ice cream in less time than it takes for a proper sit down meal.
TLDR; ice cream is good, but the prepackaged stuff was sub par (could be a one time fluke). The line takes foreeeever to advance (not a one time fluke. This seems to be normal). Bring a tent if there is more than 5 people in front of you...
Read moreFamily in town from CA. I was so excited to share the "Josh & John" experience with them. I have been coming here for over 15 years and have been pleased every time until tonight. We arrived to the Pikes Peak location, atmosphere & employees are fantastic. Spent $40 had 6 people in our party and 3 of us all found hair in our ice cream. Not just like it had accidentally fallen onto the outside of our ice cream but literally once you got into it and we're more than 1/2 way finished we found long brown hair wrapped within the scoops. 3 of us out of the 6. Because I love this place I'm going to suggest absolutely 100% have the ice cream makers wear hair nets. Probably an added benefit to have all employees wear them at all times. This place normally rocks and the tradition of J & J will continue but tonight's experience was a bummer. I recommend hair nets due to the fact that the employees are continuously on the move from register to ice cream cooler bending over getting Scoops coming back sampling bending over getting scoops. Its bound to happen just not cool. No sense in bringing to the employees attention while I'm here, as I'm no longer in the mood to be surved up more ice cream with hair in it. Regardless still love this place but I'll need a break and hope that when I return I'll see employees in hairnets so I dont have this...
