We enjoyed our visit to Pueblo Viejo. Good food, decent atmosphere. It is billed as authentic Mexican food, and I think I would venture that it is 50/50 at best. We would certainly go back.
First some background. When I attempted to order the 4pk of street tacos, I was informed that the protein was all or nothing. By that I mean, all four tacos had to be the same meat. All beef, all chicken, etc. Since we had never visited this establishment before, I had planned on having one of as many different meats as I could (carne asada, al pastor, pollo, chorizo, etc.). However, this was not to be.
And so, I adjusted my order to one of the combination dinners. No. 5 I believe which consisted of an enchilada, tamale, and a taco, accompanied by beans and rice. Interestingly enough, our waitress informed me that I could substitute a tostada for an enchilada. Amazing idea. I did opt for the substitution but asked for a manager to explain why this was possible with the combination dinner and not possible with the four street taco meal. An assistant manager stopped by the table and shared that the owner would not let them make the adjustment for which I had asked. He explained that it had something to do with the portion control of the street taco meal. It was apparent he did not know the real reason either and he mentioned that many other people had requested similar substitutions only to be disappointed like me.
Now on to a recommendation. Dear owner - at every other Mexican themed or styled restaurant I have frequented in which street tacos were available, I have been able to sample any of the meats available. Now, if certain meat costs more than others, by all means charge a fee for the difference. But we all know the margin should be high enough to absorb those types of adjustments. My recommendation is be consistent. If you do not allow substitutions add that verbiage to the menu so patrons know what to expect. Otherwise, allow your customers to get what they really want and enjoy the experience by choosing the protein for their meal, be that beef, chicken, chorizo, lengua, or whatever...
Read moreI am a Door dash delivery driver. I came in for a delivery that I had accepted. It took me 10 minutes to arrive and was 5 minutes early according to my pickup time. When I went in to pickup my order, I was greeted with a big smile and told the female hostess that I was here for a Doordash order. The hostess told me that she would check on the order. She went to the kitchen, came back out and with a big smile told me that it would only be another 5 minutes. I told her that's fine and I sat and waited patiently. I sat there patiently for 20 minutes total. As I waited, I watched as they greeted and sat multiple customers. The hostess that I had spoken with went back and forth to the kitchen at least 6 times. She never once came to me with an update or apology regarding my wait or the status of the order. After the 20 minutes plus the 15 minutes of drive time to the restaurant, my patience had run out. Time is money and I refuse to wait any longer for an order. They were moderately busy, but with an online order, 35 minutes was rediculious. It wasn't even a large order. When I pickup orders from other businesses, they either have the order ready or I have to wait 10 to 15 minutes tops. This place is rediculious and unprofessional. I was forced to cancel the order. Now that paying customer will be delayed even further and I am out 35 minutes of my time with no pay. This is the 1st and last time that I will ever accept an order from this location. Again, most businesses are prompt and professional. This business is not one of them. If you are considering ordering takeout, I would avoid this business and location entirely. You should find another Mexican restaurant around town. They're are plenty. To any delivery driver's, avoid accepting orders from this location. You'll thank me later. Delivery driver's help to expand businesses when these businesses don't offer in house delivery services. It's completely unacceptable and unprofessional to treat any delivery driver's and their customers like this. I will never give them my business, nor recommended them...
Read moreA solid experience all around. The main thing of note was the service! Our waitress was super kind and was always checking on us to make sure we had enough chips and water, and to make sure our food was good when it came out.
The food itself was good, but not quite as good as some other Mexican restaurants I've been to in the Springs. I went with my mother, and her meal was delicious (which is why the food gets 4 stars instead of 3). She got the taco salad with chicken. The chicken was moist and flavorful with a ton of sauce, which I love. The sauce was a bit sweeter than other sauces I've had on chicken fajitas in the past, but still great. Overall, a fantastic entrée. I got the combo with a tamale, taco, and enchilada, all with pork. The taco was outstanding, the pork was moist which is hard for some restaurants to pull off. It was seasoned well and came in big chunks, which created a great texture. However, the tortillas for the enchilada had a very pasty, almost raw texture. On top of that, the tamale was extremely dry, and the pork used in it tasted very different from the other pork that I loved. It didn't have nearly as much flavor as the taco or the enchilada. The rice was dry and lacking flavor as well, but the beans were OK.
All in all, it was a good experience and I definitely did not feel like I wasted my money or anything, but there are better Mexican experiences (from a purely taste and flavor perspective) to be had in the Springs...
