I could have sworn I went to this place years ago, but it was the south location. That one was nicely decorated and food was great... Anyhow, we visited the north Academy store tonight and had the totally opposite experience. I will start with the positive: our waiter Luis was great. Very nice person, stayed on top of things. The only other positive is their house salads are large. Other than that it was very disappointing, to say it nicely. To start with prices... the cheapest entrees on the menu are just under $18. The steak plates are $22.50 to $30 (whoa, this must be some great food). If you want a burger or sandwich, they start at $12, and up. There's a Tex-Mex menu on the back, items are $9-$12. Kids menu is $5-$9 (whoa). Ribs are $25 for a half rack, unless you get their appetizer basket with fries, It's $10 and a large portion, but I'd skip it. The ribs were very disappointing. The fries were good. Side items were boiled or microwaved, couldn't tell, they were fine, not good. Five people in our party ordered steaks. All came out only kinda warm and soon cooled off. That's not good! Of the four, two were cooked correct. And I don't mean a little off, I understand it's hard to be perfect (although some other restaurants don't have a hard time getting it right every time). Two that were ordered medium came out dripping, purple, rare... The two that were ordered medium rare came out fine, and cooked more than the medium. So then I had a cold, bloody waste, when I was expecting a warm, medium cooked, almost $30 quality steak. Truly sad. But we should have known the night was going to go downhill... I tried making reservations beforehand and was told all reserve and call ahead schedule spots were already taken. Cool. So I asked if they'd be able to handle a walk in 5-top, or if it was too busy. She said absolutely, and the wait would only be 5 minutes. So they aren't busy, great! Got there and the place was only about 40% full, and another party of 5 was waiting. It was 9 minutes until any worker came to greet us though. Then both parties stood there wondering what was going on, since they wrote our names down and said nothing else. Again, not busy, so I looked around and there were waiters all over the place standing around and talking in groups, the bar was empty. Then about 5 waiters/hosts approachesd the stand, ignored us, and spent another 10 minutes discussing how they wanted to split up sections, who would do what side work later, and some other finer details of restaurant work. It was obvious none of them had much restaurant experience, it was also obvious none of them wanted to take either party of 5. They continued to discuss reorganizing their sections, ignoring customers, and wasting everyone's time. Then finally from somewhere else, a young lady approached and offered to seat us. That was great, and she immediately did... we left the other party and the lost waitstaff, passing a couple other waiters on the way. Unfortunately we were taken into a "banquet room" type area that did not have heat. So we were very cold the rest of the night... But that young lady was very polite and so was Luis. From our order time to receiving our plates, it was 30 minutes. It felt like forever buy maybe that is normal... We had fun talking, and Luis kept checking on us every few minutes and keeping drinks coming. Good job. For the high menu prices, I cannot believe the very low quality and experience. Not good food. Except their cinnamon butter! Spend less and get a nice to excellent meal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband, my sister and I had an adult night and decided to spend it here for dinner. We usually go to the S. Academy location but were in the north part of town, so we figured why not try the north location. Big mistake. We got to the restaurant at 7 pm. We were told that it would be a 45 minute wait for a table, which was fine and expected since it was Friday night. After we got seated the hostess brought our rolls and took our drink order. We ordered our entrees and sides from the waitress. After waiting an additional 15 minutes from placing our order we were served our drinks, 2 waters and a sweet tea. 30 minutes after receiving our drinks our entrees came out to the table, delivered by the bus boy, before our side salads. Our entrees consisted of 2 steaks and an order of pork chops. Both of the steaks were cold and just barely this side of raw in the middle, ordering medium rare does not mean raw. The steaks had to be sent back to the kitchen to be recooked. About 10 minutes after receiving our entrees we received our side salads, at this time we also finally received our drinks refills. Another 15 minutes passed before receiving the now properly cooked steaks, delivered by the manager, not the waitress. My husband ate his entree while I ate my salad, the salad was great and the now properly cooked steak was also amazing, however that does not make up for poor service. The worst came with the bill. We asked for to go boxes and the bill. My family and I are regulars with another location of this restaurant and I do have a customer loyalty account. I called ahead to make sure that a customer loyalty card that I had was valid for use at N. Academy location and was told that it was, but when I produced the account information I was informed that it wasn't taken at that location, nothing could be redeemed or added. I talked to the manager about the experience that we had at the location, and other then being offered a discount on a future visit nothing was done. I wish that there was option to give no stars since that was what the service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt isn't that the Steaks are beyond tender and moist. It is the management and the servers too. I actually had an incident a couple of days ago, that a woman employee actually used the woman's bathroom in the only handicapped stall and only 2 other stalls just to change clothes when she was not handicapped...dressed from her waitress uniform into shorts. And then she also took up the stall next to her and draped her street clothes over the stall next to her and so she not only took up the handicap stall but another one too! I had to go into the only stall left and I am actually handicapped and have reach issues too. And I told her to ask I was at the sink having difficulty in that tiny stall because of her. And I would have understood if she would have been handicapped like me and had nowhere else to change. Maybe like at her home. And when I had enough courage to say something not just for me since I am handicapped, but stand up for others like me for there rights too. And after I said something, she did say she was sorry in a way that I knew she wasn't. Then she gave me dirty looks after I had to walk by her to get to my seat. I hadn't even eaten my main meal yet with my husband and I went to my server and just had them box up our meal. And then I finally thought my husband should go talk to the acting manager. My husband told me that the woman employee was talked to. How many times does this happen to me is not just restaurants. EMPLOYEES DO NOT TAKE UP HANDICAPPED ANYTHING IF YOU DON'T NEED IT. I hope that management will take care of this finally. I believe that every manager should have a meeting with employees about Handicapped Bathrooms and even where to sit some that can't fit into booths. Don't embarrass or make handicapped individuals feel less. I mean we already are handicapped we don't need more issues from others. This will not stop me from going to the Texas T Bone because I do Love it! But I hope that by me standing up for others will make a difference. Otherwise, it was...
