my mom, sister, and i have been getting our hair cut and colored at tigi academy for over 10 years now. we have met so many kind and talented students and this review in no way is a reflection of the students themselves. the cutie that did my hair alexandra b. is so talented and i would recommend her to anyone who (heaven forbids) goes to tigi academy. unfortunately, despite finding a student i enjoy getting my hair done by, and 10 plus years of loyalty to the academy we will not be returning. the decline in quality and professionalism of staff, negligence, and the unwillingness to own up to actions is why i will no longer be getting my hair done at tigi. i rearranged my entire week to come in and dye my hair but apparently the school has been out of fashion colors for a few months which seems ridiculous for a hair school to be out of hair dye. i decided to get an all over bleach instead since i was already there. my hair stylist had done my previous color and was knowledgeable about how my hair lifts and asked to do a bleach bath on my hair but was told no and to do it another way. this other technique and the fact that no instructor came to check on my hair led to my hair frying off. in fact the director of education came over, looked at my foils, saw the integrity of my hair and told my stylist to keep the foils in my hair. it’s because of my stylist’s better judgment to go against the director of education’s opinion that i still have majority of my hair. my hair was gummy and breaking off and the director of education, paige, tried to gaslight me saying it wasn’t breakage it was “dryness.” i am not a hairstylist but i have been getting my hair done long enough to know what breakage is and when the integrity of hair is compromised. i understand damage happens when using chemicals on hair but i have never had this experience. paige refused to acknowledge it was her actions and advise that led to the damage, or that what had happened was unacceptable. she tried saying my hair was healthy. for this to be the third public complaint about paige in 24 hours says a lot.

I'm really conflicted about my rating because I've had a lot of amazing haircuts here. But my experience yesterday was a one star experience. Never in my life has my hair been so damaged. No teacher was involved in the whole process. Someone came and initialed off the paper talking about how she was not supposed to be here that day and would be leaving soon. All I wanted was some dark red/maroon highlights at the end of my hair. I have been growing out my long dark brown hair for years. I was talked into a bauliage highlights which I agreed to. During the process I started to feel uncomfortable. After the highlights and bleach she put in an all over color that was only supposed to temporary tint the black hair and color the highlighted hair. My scalp was starting to tingle. I should have said something. My stylist had to leave early and I didn't know who to talk to. When someone did come over to wash out my hair, my whole head was orange/red. My hair was completely ruined. Some really nice students fixed my hair, kinda. But it will never be the same. I'm not mad. I'm just sad. My biggest thing was low maintenance to keep my color mainly and not damaging my hair. My scalp still hurts and my hair feels so dry because of all the color and chemicals. My natural color is ruined. And the red didn't even take to some of the highlights well. If you do get your hair done here just make sure the right people are involved. There are some really amazing people training there. And I appreciated some of the other people stepping in. UPDATE: The hair dressing academy did invite me back and did a deep conditioning on my hair so that was nice.

Hailey is one amazing student at TIGI & I’m sure when she graduates, she’s going to become an amazing hair stylist. She also gives the best scalp massages!! I’ve always wanted to go blonde but never had the courage to do so. I entrusted my blonde hair journey to Hailey…and the results have been great. I say blonde journey because my hair is very black & I knew becoming blonde would be a process. As you can see via photos I went through 3 bleaching processes, toning, cuts, & deep conditioning to get to where I am now. And might I add, with Hailey’s recommendations my hair does not feel like it’s fried/dead and I can run my fingers through my soft hair with no problem. I would HIGHLY recommend going to Hailey @ TIGI while she’s still available as a student.

Very disappointed in my services here.I would not even give 1 star but have to to give a rating. I went here to get my hair highlighted, for one it took 7 hours to do, second it was done for a grade and she never finished my hair, she put highlights in my hair and it was getting late almost closing time and the teacher came by to look at it and even asked if she was bringing me back in which she said yes to. The blonde was NEVER toned I went home with very very brassy highlights, I was promised it would get finished and to come back in . I dont see how the teacher even gave her a grade for blonde highlights being brassy and not even able to see it cause hair was wet when I left. The girl there was my friend and I was told to contact her to set up a finish date .I texted and called multiple times for 4 months straight and was ignored. My hair was NEVER finished and those brassy highlights look worse now. I am going to have to pay to get it fixed because the school never cared to bring me back in and fix it without paying for a second service when it should of been covered as it was never completed. I should of NEVER went in and got it done because now I have to pay to get it fixed. My hair is long and was healthy before here ,like hardly dyed, barely use heat on it except for special occasions, use hair masks and everything but after going here my hair took a few months to get back somewhat healthy after the horrible dye job.. I dont know if I trust using toni and guy again not the school or the business. This place is by far the worst service I have ever got,the girl should not of got a passing grade when she messed my hair up so bad, never fixed it as promised and i left with very wet hair that day not even an attempt to dry it or brush it. Do NOT pay to get your hair done here as if they mess up or dont finish you will be told it will be covered without extra cost but when you call to come back in they say you have to pay now . Also make sure you have the full day to waste here because I was there for 7 hrs and left with, damaged hair, wet hair not even blow dried , and not even somewhat pretty . After spending the whole day here I had to go home and spend more time to dry it and style it. The teacher will pass a student even if your hair looks bad so wouldnt trust her to do my hair in town. I have never had such a bad service as I did here. Definitely wouldnt recommend this place to anyone,& when people ask for recommendations I still say do not use toni and guy academy they would have better service at cheap place like cost cutters or something which isnt a highly trustworthy place so says alot. I would trust a child doing my hair over this place because I would get about the same treatment, the long 7 hour time frame wasted,my hair ruined after done and definitely not finish what they promised. Never been so disappointed with a hair salon like I was here and I've had some mess ups with my hair before but the difference is other places have fixed it if it was wrong or messed up.If I had to go back in I wasnt charged for their mess up . And at least they finished my hair that day and brought me back in if messed up within a week or 2 at most . I would recommend if you dont care about your hair ,want it ruined and unfinished and want to waste money for a horrible job and also waste your whole day and them not fix it if messed up , then id suggest...

i went to get a peekaboo of blonde underneath my brown hair. i did have rough color going in, but it wasn’t anything too crazy. i did a demi permanent on my hair a couple months prior; so i wasnt expecting anything crazy. but i got put with a barber. i thought okay, he may have some experience with color, or bleaching, whatever. that was on the receptionist for putting me with him. he was super nice, but a little distracted. the cosmetology instructor kept having to show him how to apply the bleach constantly and it took 4 HOURS to bleach my hair. even with a low volume bleach that doesn’t sound right. it was just chaotic and unpleasant. from foiling to unfoiling and reapplying and whatever. dealt with it for the entire time until the end. the instructor that was closing was so frustrated and flustered trying to close the cosmo side and the barber side, and by 6:00 pm my roots weren’t even touched. she slopped some bleach on my roots and it could feel a burn, but i’ve gotten my hair done before and it wasn’t anything until i literally lost track of time and NO ONE was to be found. finally they take me to a bowl to get my hair rinsed and there was at least one person at every bowl (at least 8 bowls) and the instructor is running around and yelling at students. my guy disappears for a while and then consults with a cosmo student about toning it. they try and convince me not to; it looked awful without a toner wet, so imagine it dry. the burning on my scalp is literally making me shiver in pain. i don’t want to be an a hole and say something but it should be common sense. he didn’t even rinse all the bleach off my roots! then he toned it finally and let it sit for maybe 5 minutes, barely washed the bleached part and i felt rushed back to his chair. he didn’t even wash the rest of my hair. i would expect to at least get all my hair washed. i get it, its been a long day, but you should still be providing a service even if its after close, especially when i came in HOURS before close. and when we get to the chair, he tries to brush out my freshly bleached (semi damaged) hair with a FINE TOOTH COMB. like really?? no hairbrush?? i’m just really ready to leave at that point. i pay and just leave. and i had to go home and shower for at least 15 minutes to get the burning and itching to stop and try to relieve my scalp. this was an awful experience and i will never recommend this salon,...

If I could put zero on this post I would!! For the first 2-3 weeks of school I kept going down to the office on my time like lunch or break about my finical aid. One day I finally got directed to the right person since she was now in office and new. She called me down to the office I asked her since we was going over something I missed already could I do it at a later time she said yes and I left the office and went right back to class. I had missed a good amount of the lesson. Not even 2 mins later Larissa come to pull me out of class for the same thing. She said I was being rude and said I stormed out Amanda office. I told her I would get all the info she kept pushing for it to get done at that time and making treats about a leave from school if I didn’t do it. So I did it and then left school due to her making it clear that she didn’t care about my education but my money more and not caring about me trying not to miss what I already missed again. I had set in the office for an hour the day before getting all the info needed. Even called my sister for the money to get my transcripts! I have showed them I’m on top of it with them but I also don’t want to miss something I missed already in class and the staff had no respect for that. Next day I get written up for abusing and bullying staff. Mind you Amanda said I could leave her office and nothing more was said from me other than why I wanted to do it later and she understood that and LET ME LEAVE HER OFFICE! Larissa kept trying to force me to either leave or sign the paper with no communication on understanding and where yesterday went wrong with Amanda since she gave me the OK to do it later. Any questions I had she didn’t answer. I got yelled at! I have it all on recording where she said either sign or get out. She kept saying it was a conversation but never answered any questions and just threats. I so wish I could post the video to show how she acted. I would definitely not advise this school to anybody. Maybe the school should make sure that they have everything with financial aid before the student start to avoid this! I even was calling before school started to make sure I was good to go! They dropped the ball! Not me! But making me miss class to fix yall mistakes isn’t fair either! It also not...
