We had made reservations for Friday night, and specifically asked for a seat on the patio, it being a nice warm night, it was 81 degrees in the afternoon, and they said yes, instead when we got there they told us the patio was closed, and they NEVER mentioned that to us. We were seated in the lounge area, below ground in the basement, kinda of far away from the nice evening we expected to have outside. We had others that were going to enjoy us but they were running so late. We asked if this was okay if they still could come in, join us at this point since we had not ordered our meal yet and we were sure there was absolutely no problem with that. They were very welcome to come in and they would bring them to us from upstairs. But from that moment on we were treated with what I felt like was a disdain from the server who was wearing sweatpants, tennis shoes and a t-shirt and looked like she should be serving breakfast at an outside coffee shop instead of a dinner house with 30 plus dollar meals. We at this point we're concerned with what the conflict was. My wife spoke with the server who assured us again everything was okay and at this point, which was about 7:00 p.m. we were told the kitchen would close at 8:00. We were no longer going to be able to order or get foo apparent d after 8:00. We did not know this. We were never informed of this and since our reservations were at 6:15 p.m. it didn't make a lot of sense for a dining experience to need to be over within an hour and a half with a band playing... We did not understand that we had to have our meal in front of us by 8:00 p.m. we just thought it meant that they were no longer seating people at that time, but the people that were seated would not be rushed to be out of the restaurant, which is what the rest of the evening started to turn out to be. The confusion between us and The servers attitude toward us didn't make a lot of sense. So we all quickly ordered and my wife asked for the appetizer plates to be cleared three times before offering the clear them herself and the server got them out of the way. For the meal items to be placed on the table The server would not give us. Eye contact was very short and Kurt about any answers or questions. When our meals came out. We didn't see her much after that and when we were waiting for our bill we were ready to leave promptly at 8:00 p.m. as the band was saying goodbye and everybody's walking out the door but our server was nowhere to be found. It took us over 40 minutes to get our checks and then pay during the time of being given attitude. It was a very unpleasant evening. This is point in case where staff makes the difference in an evening. The music was wonderful and enjoyable. The other people in the restaurant were wonderful and enjoyable. We were introducing this restaurant to friends who had never been there and this was a mistake on our behalf which we have been apologizing to them all morning. It's when the guest in a restaurant are the ones who are treated badly and expected to pay a very high price for a very unenjoyable evening which should not have been that case do solely from a server's attitude and lack of management control of what was happening within...
Read moreThis place has seen better days. It is clearly living off the old accolades from years past. I had heard good things about it. I finally was able to go with my wife for her Birthday dinner. The place is very old and dated. I felt like I was going to eat some good old Mexican food by the way the place looked and I also thought the food would have been some kind of Mexican fusion place based on what I am seeing and the name of the place. You don't know what you are going to eat because they say they are preparing the meal based on the season and the menu changes everyday based on the website info. Sounds cool to me. so the only think Mexican was the drink menu. You can get like 8 different Margaritas and they had some other cocktails that didn't look too good. Anyway I ordered a strawberry basil Collins. it was terrible. either the bartender needs help or they are using subpar ingredients. My wife got a sangria. tasted like a premade sangria. the kind of bottle you get at the liquor store for 9 dollars. out came the App. Corn Fritters, they tasted like the old Chilies southwest egg rolls accompanied by some green sauce. I think it was some sort of avocado sauce. They tasted pretty good. We ordered the 3 course meal. they offered 4 but that was only to add a soup or a salad. the 3 course dinner only included the salad or soup but not both. I ordered the Grouper. and my wife ordered steak because the other 2 entrees were some egg plant thing for my vegetarian friends or lamb. She hates lamb and isn't so big on fish so she got the only other thing on the menu, steak. My fish was way over cooked. not to mention it was about a quarter of an inch thick and about 4 inches long. It was a dried up mess with no flavor served over white rice and 2 that's right 2 asparagus spears. and the good ole green sauce from the fritters. My wife's steak was cooked the way she ordered it. she got a NY Strip. she said it was pretty bland and wasn't seasoned very much. This steak could not stand on it's own. Her meal was served with mash potatoes. they weren't a stand out either. then came the desert. Little tiny cream puff for her and I got some sort of thick cream bowl with a tiny bit of strawberry puree and a few pieces of strawberry. It was ok but a very small portion. Oh and I forgot to tell you about the wine pairing I did with the meal. the wine showed up about half way through each course. I couldn't tell you what the wine was that I was served and the waitress couldn't either. lol All in all a very disappointing meal especially for the price. I do not recommend this place. There are tons of places in Colorado Springs that can do a lot better for the same price. I would avoid this place...
Read moreI was taken here for the first time during the Saturday seasonal farmers' market. My father, who has been shopping at that market since 2010, was very excited to buy egg puffs for family that is visiting from overseas. The location is lovely with some really interesting and delicious food choices, but the way my father was treated left me feeling as if the food will not make up for the service.
I understand that it's hot, the hustle and bustle of an open air market can get annoying, but service work entails answering questions. When my father and I asked what was in the pork tacos or if they had an item with bacon the young lady working the counter seemed irritated. She told us they never had anything with bacon and the grill didn't open till 11. Ok... I live ten minutes from this market, and I'm writing this review at 1050. I would have waited, but I never did find out what was in those damn tacos.
When we asked for salsa to-go, the 'gentleman' working the counter, and I use the word 'gentleman' loosely, pointed at the plastic ramicans saying, 'They're right there.'
Ok thanks! I filled two. One for me and my father, and guess what!? They were NOT the to go ramicans. To-go containers with lids are behind the counter! Which the young lady I mentioned earlier procured for us not a moment after I finished filling the second.
She seemed upset that I didn't know the ones I was filling did not have lids. Sorry. First timer. No worries, I probably won't be back.
My father then asked for a second container with a lid. She responded with, "She can fit two in that one." Oh... Ok... Well...
We needed two because we are literally going to two separate locations, but thank you for letting me know what we need.
I don't know if they sell salsa on the side, but they seemed really upset about us taking some free salsa. Were we over stepping some salsa courtesy rule? Maybe a sign for us too stupid to read minds? So far I think the only thing we are guilty of is being dumb enough to give you our money.
This was my father's first outing today since my grandmother has been transitioned to in-home hospice care. Watching him be treated this way after being so excited to share something that simply brings him joy broke my heart. He looked so defeated, like the one silver lining to this day in a LONG line of hard days was completely deflated and pulled out from under him, too tired to even address it.
When I was in food service we always said, "You NEVER know what another person's day has been like." I truly, truly hope that this is something no one ever has to experience.
I never did eat that egg puff. I lost...
