We stayed at this Fairfield Inn for 3 nights.
In general, the staff was very friendly and helpful, particularly the late afternoon/evening front desk team.
This is an older hotel and in serious need of an overhaul. It is very worn, and while it looks like the carpet might have been replaced not so long ago, the rest needs a major makeover, as it just feels dingy due to that age. Definitely the weakest Fairfield Inn we've ever stayed in from an appearance/comfort standpoint.
Overall, our room was clean enough, though some extra attention in the bathroom around the tub drain and bottom would have helped.
The exception to the friendly/helpful staff was the lady working the breakfast, which frankly was the worst overall experience we've had in any hotel in a long time. The same lady worked all three mornings we were there, so I would attribute the weak breakfast experience directly to her.
Specifics: Though there was one of the classic Quaker oatmeal warmers on the breakfast bar that the staff is supposed to place a pot of freshly made oatmeal into, it sat empty every morning--right next to the entire line of fixings intended to go on the oatmeal (raisins, nuts, cinnamon, etc). I went to the door of the kitchen area (where the staff member sat looking at her phone) and asked about the oatmeal and she said they had no oatmeal, not even packets. Strike one.
On day 2, the orange juice ran out early in the morning crowd (on a Saturday where you have a lot of travelers). I asked about it, and she came back and said they had no more orange juice, then went away and came back with a lemonade mix in its place, placing a hand-written label on it that said something like "lemon drink" with a smiley face. Why bother? Who wants that for breakfast? This was still present on day 3. Strike two.
For all 3 mornings, the coffee station in the dining room was a complete mess. There were three creamer pitchers on the left side, which it turns out held artificial creamer (Vanilla, Hazelnut, plain), but a) the pitchers' operation was terrible and the creamer just dribbled all over the place, making a huge mess that we never saw the staff member come to wipe up at any time and b) for whatever reason the creamer itself was super thick, unlike it is when it comes in its own bottle from the store, contributing to the dribbling/dripping because it could barely come out. Not sure what they are doing to it, but I'd change it up and start over with new pitchers that operate better. Strike three.
Of the three dry cereals offered in the canisters where you twist a handle to dispense them, one of them was filled with frosted mini wheats. The dispensers were not designed to take such large chunks, so after one or two small pieces dropped into my bowl it stopped because the pieces were two big to come out. I ended up taking off the top and using a spoon to get enough for my bowl. Strike four.
Bottom line is even if the hotel's breakfast offerings are not the greatest, which is often the case for the "cheaper" hotels (which this was not...), who you have working the dining room can make a huge difference. This woman clearly did not care and was going through the basic motions while accomplishing nothing. Not sure who is responsible for ordering enough to have on hand or if any management ever spot-checks the operation, but would highly recommend it, as there were a lot of unhappy customers besides us when it came to the breakfast.
As it sits today, we would not stay in this hotel again, as there are too many better choices available in the area. Recommend Mariott take a good look at this one and work up a rehab plan, as well as get someone on the breakfast...
Read moreOn our first trip back to the Fairfield Inn and Suites we opted to stay in one of their suites. The room was gorgeous with a beautiful view of the mountains as well as the beautiful city of Colorado Springs. The king size bed was a delight to sleep on decked out with lots of pillows to provide that "at-home" feeling. The living area had a pull-out sofa that was easy to set up and quite comfortable. The wrap around sofa provided plenty of visiting room for family and friends to play games and catch up. The free Wi-fi was fast and glitch free. It was very nice to have a refrigerator and microwave, allowing for quick late-night snacks.
My favorite part of the stay, however, was the dealings I had with the friendly and effervescent staff who greeted us like we were coming home from a long vacation every time we entered or left the hotel. They truly desired we have an event-packed visit to their beautiful city. I wanted to mention some of the more memorable staff who went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome and at-home. Claire, at the front desk was delightful and funny. She had lots of ideas for things we could do. Truly took our reservation and then checked up on us several times to make sure the room was to our liking, the beds were comfortable and to ensure we had everything we needed. The assistant manager Jennifer spent time joking and teasing my grandchildren - making them feel like they were the most important visitors at the hotel.
The large breakfast buffet was hot and delicious with Kathy, the breakfast attendant who impressed me so much on our first visit, doing an excellent job of ensuring everyone got their fill of good food and good conversation. The children seemed to flock to her - drawn to her fun and high-energy teasing. The highlight of the breakfast were the homemade waffles!
Again, we couldn't be happier with our stay at this cozy, friendly hotel. Thank you so much for treating us so well and we look forward to coming back on our next trip to...
Read moreAwful. I hate to leave a bad review as the head of housekeeping was so kind to my family. But the rest of the staff are horrible. My room had a musty smell, and the bathroom had a moldy smell with obvious mold along the caulking of the tub. We opened a window to allow fresh air to circulate for a few hours which didn’t help, so I asked the ‘manager on duty’ if we could switch rooms. It appears that any Joe Schmoe on duty was the manager by the way, as the names changed on that sign more than people change their underwear. Anyways, her response was that someone had just called and was possibly interested in coming in to stay in the one room left available so no, she couldn’t help us. Mind you I prepaid my room two months in advance. Basically, she said ‘screw you, we already have your money and don’t give a damn’, handed me a toxic spray when I clearly had a one year old in my arms and told me to spray it and that housekeeping would clean our room the next day. The spray, which I used and left the room for a while so it could dissipate, worked on the musty room odor but not the moldy smell in the bathroom which was never resolved or even followed up on. Also, an accent pillow that was on the bed was beyond filthy and had hairs on it from either the housekeeper or previous customer. Gross.
I left an unhappy review and guest survey similar to this with Marriott, and the assistant manager asked for my number via email and said she would reach out to me. Surprise surprise, an automated type email came back and no call ever came from this person.
