My family and I have stayed here twice in the last year and a half and really enjoyed it. We visit family in Buena Vista a few times a year and usually break up the drive from our home to them with a stop in Colorado Springs when we leave late from our home. The location is VERY close to Garden Of The Gods which is why we chose the hotel the first time and it's also very close to plenty of restaurants and pretty much anything you would need is close by. The hotel manager Jeff, is very friendly, and called when I had a concern with the third party booking site we used. There's a lot to be said when someone takes the time to call you to make sure you're pleased with your stay when it seems these days that as long as your payment is good, you may or may not ever hear from someone again. The night we checked in there was a decent storm coming over from the back side of the pass and we arrived late due to a previous storm. We checked in quickly, and didn't stay up that late. The next morning we had breakfast in the lobby (they have Oat Milk which was a huge plus for my wife), jumped in the Bronco and headed west through the weather. I'm all about spending money where I feel it's the best bang for the buck, and this location delivers with great pricing and a good comfortable place to stay.

Ill start off with, the staff was really nice. I was bamboozled by the photos. I thought we were going to get a room with a nice shower but instead got a tub with a stain. EDIT: last night, I got into their hot tub. The water level was low which exposed a brown ring, it looked dirty.. In the morning, we went down for breakfast. The biscuit and sausage I got were hard. The sausage was hard you ask? Yes!! It's slightly outdated so I probably won't stay here again..

The front desk clerk last night was so nice and helpful. The breakfast was great. Gary and Blanca were running. They were working so hard to keep everything stocked and clean for everyone. The rooms are clean. The beds are comfortable. We originally booked a different hotel that was not good. Best Western Plus got us a room in minutes. I'm glad we made the switch. It was well worth the few extra dollars.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Our high intensity, broad scope, rain shower head was fantastic. Cherry Wonderdog thoroughly enjoyed the morning routine. Also, the views of Pikes Peak from the fourth floor out the front of the building was very nice, especially in the morning. The sun illuminated the snowcap mountain which made for wonderful scenery. Our “suite” included a cushioned seating area right by a large window (that actually slid open!) to enhance the viewing experience.||Sadly, the accolades stop there. That narrow window bench was just about the only distinguishing feature between the “suite” and the regular rooms. Supposedly there was more living space, but given the fact that the room was already quite small, it’s hard to imagine how much smaller and uncomfortable the regular rooms were. Most of the amenities were dated and ho-hum. There was no individual thermostat, so everything was regulated by the noisy AC/heater. The hotel air circulation system fed through the bathroom, and it made so much noise that we had to keep our bathroom door closed at night. Reportedly the suite rooms had been renovated with new mattresses, but mine was already sagging inward. None of the lightbulbs (the one at the window was inoperative) had been upgraded from old-style fluorescent to LED, and nobody thought to add a level of security by the window to keep rambunctious children from falling out through the flimsy screen. ||The staff was nice but not too knowledgeable about the area. Most of the time, however, they were hidden in the back room rather than customarily perched at the front desk. That’s an implicit trick of the hospitality trade – hotel reps are supposed to engage proactively, not wait to be summoned. ||Service in general was by no means exceptional. Diamond members received no special treatment, including late checkouts. Communication was poor – neither our email prior to arrival nor our phone call from the room during the stay was returned. The latter pertained to staff assigning the adjacent room to a couple who arrived at midnight with a screaming baby (an understatement) that kept us up for hours. ||Hotel breakfast was abysmal – even worse than the entry grade Hampton Inn … and this was a Best Western PLUS. There was no real coffee, and none within walking distance either. All hot beverages were machine-generated. The cappuccino was spit out using a real-time mixture of hot water and powdered milk. The fruit selection included bruised yellow oranges and apples. No bananas, no fresh yogurt – again, only sugary machine goop made from mystery ingredients. There was no fresh oatmeal either, only the instant variety, without a mechanism for properly measuring water either. I had hoped to make the machine-grade black coffee drinkable, but there was no whole milk – only 2% and oat. Cream was in capsules only, like an old-style diner. Hot food options were disgusting – industrialized scrambled eggs, faded bacon, grits made from who knows what, and a cornstarch-enhanced green chili. All the pastries were gross. Instead of a normal waffle maker, there was some bizarre “pancake maker” that nobody ever used. It just took up space. Lots of folks stocked up on processed white bread and bagels from the supermarket. At least there was pineapple water in the lobby!||Last but not least, the pool and jacuzzi which presumably entitled management to call this Best Western a Best Western Plus were situated in a woefully uninviting room with low ceiling. Not a soul was ever seen inside. Similarly, the “gym” was an absolute joke. There were lots of deceptive mirrors but only one aerobic bike and only one old weight pulley machine. In fact, one of the cables of this machine was completely frazzled and looked particularly unsafe. Worse, there wasn’t even enough room to use without hitting the wall supporting the TV. Again, Cherry Wonderdog never saw anybody using it. Unfortunately, there was little else to do in the area except for the Santa Fe bike trail about half a mile away. Maybe the hotel could think about having a few bikes to loan out. ||All in all, I would never return to this Best Western hotel and regret assigning a...
