Island Grill — Restaurant in Columbia

Service is excellent and at lunch time it is very fast take out. I think I waited one whole minute. Staff are still following covid protocols and wearing masks and gloves, which I think is great. It is currently take out at the walk up window only, and they are very attentive. $12 for a lunch plate and a lemonade is a very good deal. I know nothing about authenticity of Jamaican food- this is the first one I have tried. I know what I like. I can say I really enjoy the food from here. The curry I have gotten before is not spicy, but it is very good. Today I got the jerk chicken with peas and rice, mac and cheese, grean beans, and complimentary plantains. The jerk is delicious and spicy. The meat portions are decent, but could be a little better, and included a lot of bones. I got a wing, a part of some other dark meat, and part of a breast, which yes was a bit dry but breast meat does that when it is grilled and it is still very tasty. The green beans, rice with peas, and plantains were all excellent. The mac and cheese is better than my mama's, which I would never tell her, but it was that good. The plate as a whole is very substantially sized, and I still have lunch leftovers I am currently munching on a little at a time late in the afternoon. The cook sorta knows Me, I come a kinda regular customer but from time to time I would patronize the restaurant when I want jamaican food. Well, I wanted some Jamaican food. I drove sorta outta my way to order and pick up food here. Especially since Pond Di River wasn't answering the fone and nice nasty attitude. So I came to Island grill. Yes the food was hot, packaging was on point. But It wasn't good that I was given basically boneyard very small scraps of met but mostly bone in Mt order. Barely any sauce on top of my rice and the Mac and cheese was ok but could have used some butter in it and cheese through out the Mac and cheese and seasoning in the food. The food was bland. But just because I ordered a small plate doesn't mean I deserve to be served basically bone and very small scraps of meat to almost no meat at all and I ordered oxtail dinner w basically almost no oxtail. I called the store back after getting my food and no answer. The sweet pitatoes I don't know. But black ppl when ppl do business w you, come to restaurant to eat etc. Give them what they pay for. Black ppl when your paying for a service to other black ppl pay your ppl don't ask for discounts. Black restaurant workers stop gyping your ppl out of what they are paying for for their food meaning stop being stingy with the food they...

Literally WOW! 😍 everything about this meal was amazing. I came here tonight to purchase dinner for my family and I was a little nervous because I’ve never eaten here before. There was a lady up front who brought our food out and presented us with complimentary drinks, freshly made! I have the oxtail, plantains, Mac & cheese and okra with the lemonade/sweet tea. This meal tasted like home, I couldn’t stop eating and with every bite it got better. My sister got the jerk chicken, rice and steamed veggies and they were also AMAZING. I’ve seen a lot of reviews where people say the chicken is dry but that was not our experience at all! Every bite had a burst of flavor. This is definitely my new fav downtown spot! Will be coming back a million times...
