Monterrey Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Columbia

This is a decent restaurant with sub-average accommodations. The parking on this Friday night was abysmal. It was party-time in downtown Columbia for the college students and there were no spaces within 2 blocks. Go here on a weeknight. The interior is very modest and somewhat disheveled. It just doesn't have a clean look. A fresh paint job and some better decorating could add a lot of class here. The staff was competent, but not overly friendly. The food: Quantity was overwhelming. The vegetables seemed fairly fresh and the shrimp were well-cooked. However, there was little flavor at all to the meal. The server never once came to ask if the food was ok or we needed anything . He did drop a tea refill while walking by one time and never said a word. The price of the meal seemed fair for the area and general experience. I can see a lot of room for improvements at this restaurant. They should consult with more upscale places and try to make this place something really special, especially so close to the state Capitol building. If you want a huge plate of average food for a fair price and don't care much about service or the environment, this just might be your ticket. Let us know if you find this...

So I drove all the way back to get a missing taco to receive this skimpy thing. So I ordered 4 steak tacos when I arrived home I was disappointed with only 3 for the price of 4. I called it in and the boss insisted I had all four, I did not! Trying to basically say I’m lying for a 3.75 taco! But he said after some convincing, I “can” come in. When I arrived he was on the same idea he was on the phone, saying it was there before. But said he’ll “cook another right away” and came back with half a taco! Lol. So instead of giving me a whole taco and keeping a customer he saved a few cents for a couple pieces of meat. Because I also ate inside 2 times and the service was also unprofessional, getting orders wrong and even having to reach for a napkin to write down our order. And bringing me ground beef nachos instead of the steak I ordered and putting onions on my girls “no onion” tacos. The food isn’t good enough for this service and i am displeased that I even have to come here and write this. The food could have been better, but the margarita needed alot of work. They didn't have a drink menu so I ordered a top shelf jumbo margarita and requested a Grand Marnier floater. The waiter didn't understand what I meant by floater so he blended the entire drink. It was very watered down and the waiter ended up bringing me a shot of Grand Marnier. Lastly, the rice was just that... Rice. I expected it to be seasoned or mixed with pico de gallo. I ended up missing salsa and guacamole in the rice. I'm from Texas and I know authentic Mexican food when I taste it. This was not it.

From my nephew: I am very disappointed in this restaurant. Me myself as a child should not be saying. There was a change in waiters in the middle of while we were there, they repeadetly messed up my order. Not to be rude but there was a incredible lack of organization. I was given another drink when I had a full one that was clearly visible. Not to mention the 2nd waiter didn't know if we ordered yet and the service was slow. I'd have better chances with Taco Bell...
