I placed an online order for pickup and walked in to find the guy at the front absorbed in something on an iPad. no problem. He doesn’t acknowledge us for a few minutes, so I start chatting with my girlfriend and taking a few pictures of her outfit. I turn my back for maybe eight seconds, and apparently in that time, he walks off and out of nowhere, comes into the lobby area and starts loudly accusing me of taking a picture of him.
Not asking, not clarifying, just straight to confrontation with this nasty, aggressive tone. I told him—truthfully—I did not take a photo of him. I even showed him my phone to prove it then he started making demands at me like yea show me your phone, least he could've done was ask or tone it down. But instead of backing down or handling it professionally, he continues yelling about how he "doesn't consent to being in any pictures or videos," like I was filming him for some secret investigation?
The way he approached the situation was insanely rude and uncalled for, I was genuinely stunned, nothing about my behavior justified his volume, tone, or disrespect. The entire thing was bizarre and uncalled for. He starts rudely asking "you want to order or what!?" and that's when I drew the line. At this point he's being patronizing and condescending, for what because I want to give them my money and business?
I genuinely have no idea what made him think it was okay to speak to a customer like that. Maybe he was already mad about something else. Maybe he didn’t like that I was having a lighthearted moment with my girlfriend. Either way, his behavior was completely unprofessional and honestly disgusting.
Then after all that—he somehow gives my order to a random delivery driver. I had to ask about it, and he says nothing. The delivery driver is the one who ends up asking me for my name and handing me the bag. No apology. No acknowledgment. Just total silence and attitude.
I get home, and the food isn't even labeled, so I have to cut everything open and look up ingredients online just to figure out which burritos are vegan and which have steak. And after all that? The burrito was tiny, generic, and flavorless. Borderline a taco. I've had incredible burritos across the country in the $10–15 range—this was a $13 disappointment with the personality of cardboard. Maybe a 3/10 if I’m being generous.
The worst part is that even if the food had been good, I’d still be hesitant to go back because of how this guy treated me. His attitude ruined what should’ve been a simple, quick pickup. I try to be understanding when people are having a rough day, but this wasn’t just a bad mood this was full-blown entitlement and aggression toward someone minding their business.
He had no right to speak to me that way. The bare minimum would’ve been giving me the correct order or at least saying sorry. Instead, I left feeling disrespected and genuinely upset. One of the most uncomfortable experiences I’ve had at...
Read moreMy wife and I are OU alums that have loved Big Mamma's since we first tried it nearly 14 years ago. The court street location was a typical stop on the way home many Saturday nights as we both loved their burritos and especially the sombrero sauce. I was always happy to wait in line for twenty or more minutes for their amazing food. Everything always tasted the same every single time we went.
We were so excited when we heard about this location opening up in Columbus. We did notice slight differences from the Athens location the very first time we tried it, like the chips coming in smaller bags and the burritos being smaller, but at least the food tasted nearly as good as we remembered, so we ignored it.
Due to Covid and our proximity to this location, it's been over two years since we've had it. I don't know what has happened in that time, but wow has the food gone downhill. My Chipotle ranch burrito was even smaller than the last few times. It was probably 80% rice and with only the smallest hint of ranch flavor. It actually tasted sweet. I actually asked my wife if there was any chance this was from a different big mamma's. I had to douse it in hot sauce to finish it. But the worst of all was the sombrero sauce. It was completely different and nothing like the original. It's as if they forgot to add half the ingredients. The cheese was still solid and unmelted. Not creamy or even mixed at all. Much smaller portion, well under half what we used to get.
I always got the impression that this location had little to no affiliation with the original in Athens, but all of my doubt it now removed. I can say with 100% certainty that I will never eat at this location again. I'd rather drive to Athens to ensure I get the real thing.
Note to the owner, please for the love of all things that are good in the world change everything back to how they used to be. From reading over a hundred or so reviews from the last two years it's clear that something has changed and the owner is refusing to address or even acknowledge it. This place is an embarrassment to the Big...
Read moreThe bad reviews are the accurate ones, unfortunately. I’m scared to see what a “small” burrito looks like. The regular size is so small, not even an actual burrito-size tortilla, that the smaller size must be a street taco. Horrible value for money.
The bagged Mission chips are disappointing. Making your own tortilla chips isn’t difficult, I assumed for $4.50, they’d at least be homemade. They’d probably be able to save on food costs doing that too. $4.50 for a snack bag of chips and a 3oz cup of cheese is a huge rip off.
The responses to bad reviews about burrito size are also really disappointing. The answer is to order a different burrito? No, Big Mamma’s should live up to its name and actually provide standard sized burritos. Especially when they’re charging $10+ for them.
I ordered the Buffalo Burrito, paid the $2 up charge for the “regular” size. The rice was undercooked and crunchy. I also agree it badly needs seasoning. I get concern over dietary restrictions, but people who need to control their salt intake aren’t ordering foods that typically can’t have salt removed.. like rice that’s not cooked to order. They are used to it and plan their outings around it. Dietary restrictions are no excuse for bland food. A Buffalo burrito should be spicy and garlicky. I couldn’t even tell if there was any actual Buffalo sauce. (Which, again, there’s no dietary restriction accommodation that excuses this! People either know they can have Buffalo sauce or know to avoid it!)
I also ordered the tots and queso, but didn’t receive it. Thankfully Ubereats auto refunded it. But to be honest, the entire order should be auto refunded. Paying nearly $30 for a tiny burrito, a snack bag of chips and cup of nacho sauce, and some tater tots is absurd.
I will never be eating at this place again. I really suggest people get their burritos elsewhere. Plenty of actual Mexican restaurants in the city where you can get a...
