I ate a pleasant lunch recently [5-31-2022] at Firehouse Subs Grandview #693 at 955 W. Fifth Ave.
I had been on a self-guided walking tour in the "Fifth by Northwest" neighborhood that day and had arrived at Firehouse Subs exactly at the correct time to be able to order and eat lunch.
The dining room at Firehouse Subs Grandview is at least twice the needed size for such a restaurant; there is plenty of room; the tables are widely separated.
I had studied the Firehouse Subs website several times in advance of my visit and had chosen the following sub to order: "Firehouse Hero®" [USDA Choice roast beef, smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, and melted provolone, served "Fully Involved," which means "loaded complete with mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a kosher dill pickle on the side"].
The website had not mentioned that there are three sizes of subs from which to choose so I had to quickly decide which size of sub to order while standing at the ordering counter.
Sometimes, on-line menus are based on the premise that the customer will be ordering "on line" at that moment rather than walking into the restaurant later and ordering at the counter.
The one odd thing about the ordering-and-paying process is that I had been asked to insert my debit card without knowing the cost of my order. Usually, credit card machines display the total amount due but I had seen no "amount due" on the credit card machine so I asked the cashier the "amount due" after I had already paid that amount.
My one criticism of my recent visit to Fireplace Subs is that the website had clearly stated that there would be "a kosher dill pickle on the side" served with my sub when in fact there had been none.
I am surprised that the "default" "serving style" for subs at Firehouse Subs is that they will be served "hot." My "hot" sub had actually been "lukewarm" which in my opinion is never the best temperature at which to serve a sub.
The next time I order a sub from Fireplace Subs, I will request that they serve...
Read moreI ordered a take out order and I'm not sure if the cashier rung me up as dine in or what.. But the young lady with the two small pig tails handed me my food as if u was dining in. Mistakes happen , so I didn't get upset. I simply told her that it's a to go order. She took my food back SLAMMED it in the counter and got very mad..It's never that serious. I came back the next day and ordered , and I told the other girl that works there that I did not want the lady with the two pig tails making my food, she asked me why??? And I told her why..But the funny thing is I seen her watching everything that went on that day, because she was there.. So why asked me why (not sure if she was a manager or shift lead?)Anyway...She told the other girl to step I'm the back ( because I did not want my sandwich made by her) the girl asked the manager WHY 🤔. I did go back today ( for the last time) and the atmosphere was just different. I was not greeted like they greet everyone else nor did the manager even apologize for her employees actions. She knew it was wrong but to me it was being justified. Customer service to me goes a longggg way. No the customer isn't always right all the time..But I literally did nothing but order my food so I can head back to work. Her attitude was not needed. And today just kinda set the tone with me. I never experienced this type of service at any other firehouse. Hopefully this location can hire people that actually like their jobs and knows how to handle customers in a more professional way and managers that doesn't just give you the cold shoulder all because that's their employee. The guy that cashier has always been the nicest sweetest person there. He is the one that handed me my food today and said have a nice day since the other two girls didn't want to hand me my food. Would I recommend this...
Read moreInitially, this experience was a negative one. My partner and I ordered three subs through DoorDash, two of which were fine, but the third didn’t even come close to resembling the order. I’d ordered a veggie sub, asked to remove several options and also asked to add several options. What I received was bread with a layer of lettuce, a slice and a half of tomato, about four small wedges of cucumber, and a vapor of mustard. I’d also asked for bell peppers, banana peppers, olives, and cheese, but none were included.
We knew that we would have to pursue any refunds through DoorDash, but I called the storefront to let them know what happened, because we were disappointed with 1/3 of the order. The supervisor on the job let us know that our order must have been one of the last on the previous shift, and she offered to make a new sub immediately, upgraded to a large size, gratis. She was tremendously gracious.
Ultimately, it took an extra 30 minutes to get food (with needing to drive and take necessary COVID precautions). Given that 2/3 of our order was fine and the next supervisor went above and beyond to fix the problem, I would absolutely recommend...
