Thursday evening in the amazing neighborhood of Grandview. My husband and I had our favorite restaurants there, but it was time to try something new. We heard great things about this new Indian restaurant and went there. It is a nice restaurant, a mix of cozy and fancy, not too informal, not too formal. We immediately understood that it was not the typical Indian restaurant, since the menu had some dishes we had never seen before. We decided to try a signature dish: Taj Stuffed Paneer. Let me tell you: it is one of the most original and tasty dishes we have recently tried. It is delicious. It is officially one of our favorite dishes in Columbus, those that we want our friends and family from other cities and from abroad to try as well when they visit us. Please go and try it! We will be coming back to try other dishes, the signature cocktails, and the Indian brunch! We also recommend the tiramisu, not a classic tiramisu, but a beautiful fusion of Italian and Indian cuisine. The service was amazing, including the chef himself coming to our table and sharing with us insights from his passion for cooking and vision for the restaurant. Can't wait to enjoy the Taj Stuffed Paneer again with a signature cocktail on their patio in a beautiful spring or summer sunset!...
Read moreFirst time dining at Taj on 5th. Went with a group of friends for my birthday. I hadn't mentioned that was what we were celebrating, but the manager and server heard my friends mention it. They sent a free starter and a cocktail (mocktail for me, very appreciative that was an option) and offered a complimentary dessert for my birthday.
The service was excellent! Very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was also top notch. Very clean. Tasteful music playing, not too loud. A good amount of two, four and six tops available. Plus ample bar space. We got there a little early and they were still infusing an ingredient for the gin cocktail my friend had her eye on. They offered to have the bartender make an off menu gin cocktail that she was very pleased with.
Food was amazing! The mixed pakora with chutney was light and crisp and flavorful. The garlic naan was the best many in my party have had in columbus. All the mains were delightful! I had the Taj stuffed paneer, which blew my mind. Not only on point with flavor but also presentation.
Overall a fantastic experience had by myself and the entire group! I hadn't been out for indian food in quite some time. Now it's all I'm thinking about. We definitely plan...
Read moreVery friendly staff, and food was just excellent. Menu is not overwhelming in its scope. It appears they want to specialize and focus on quality as opposed to having a four page menu of every conceivable Indian dish. Not saying it is a limited menu though. It’s just refreshing to NOT be bombarded with a hundred mediocre plates. Owner and chef engage with patrons in a honest and professional (but laid-back) manner. Would imagine this is a feature born of sincerity, and I would assume is dependent on how busy they are. Wouldn’t expect this when the dishes are flying out of the kitchen, and they all have their sleeves rolled up. Inviting and comfortable atmosphere -not a huge, distant space. A warm but not crowded feel for a relatively smaller space. Nice greenery in pots around the space -may not be a point worth mentioning to some folk, but I think taking the effort to have healthy, live plants shows a commitment to detail. Highly recommend giving this place a shot if you like Indian food. Ps: the “what dishes do you recommend” section of this review did not have the options I savored, such as Kashmiri Rogan Josh, Spicy Lamb Vindaloo, and the mixed Pakora Platter. All good. Look forward...
