Let me preface this review by letting people know this is a… good ol boy bar. Despite being generally aware of this, it was near Saint Pattys Day, so our group was trying Irish sounding bars. We came in last night to grab a couple drinks. We walked in the place was pretty full, but luckily a table was open. Our party of five went to sit down but we’re told by the bartender very sternly “ONLY FOUR AT A TABLE”. We went over to the booths to find a spot for five and nothing was open, a few of my party decided to use the restroom and wait a couple minutes for a booth to open up. After a few minutes went by, no one came to ask us if we needed a seat. We asked the bartender if we could just pull up a chair to the four top. Eye contact, but no response. We all just decided to leave. On our way out, someone who worked there asked “Are you good? Why did you just come in to use the bathroom”. We told him there was no place to sit and they wouldnt let us sit at the four top. He replied “whatever, that seems awfully suspicious”. Dude was clearly tipsy too. Place seemed fine inside but just very weird how combative they were with 5 people coming for the first time and willing to spend hundreds of dollars on drinks. Seems like the clientele is just older (50-70 year old) white men so if that’s your demo, you’ll be fine. Really, the place just confirmed the reputation it has if you live anywhere remotely close to the area. Avoid this place if you’re younger, looking to have a couple drinks, have a female in your party, and want...
Read moreO'Reilly's continues to be a favorite of mine, and is a Columbus treasure !! I always look forward to seeing the green & white sign during my trips on High Street in Clintonville. They sure don't go out of their way to make places like O'Reilly's these days. Fortunately, the original ones tend to last for many years, despite even a Pandemic.
This is a well-seasoned neighborhood place, like those I have been frequenting for more than 60 years. My father provided my earliest introductions to places like O'Reilly's. Thanks, Dad !! He would've been a fan, too. The walls could tell some amazing stories !! I won't provide a detailed description. It's not fancy, but very welcoming. The people there (thanks, Beth !!) are special. She advised me that the kitchen would be restoring their excellent lunch menus in the not too distant future, which pleased me greatly. The food is good and tasty, and you might find something that you haven't had since Mom made it for you when you were a kid. If you're new to O'Reilly's, do yourself a favor, stop in and find out what you've been missing firsthand. Strike up a conversation with whoever is behind the bar (if they're not too busy) and someone sitting nearby, and at least get a plastic cup of Dave's salty redskin peanuts with your beverage. I'm guessing you'll...
