I ate an absolutely delicious lunch yesterday [7-25-2022] at Sí Señor Peruvian Sandwiches Grandview.
I had first learned about Sí Señor Peruvian Sandwiches Grandview several weeks ago while I had been using Google Maps to browse, "virtually," "the "Fifth by Northwest" neighborhood of Columbus.
I quickly learned that Sí Señor Peruvian Sandwiches Grandview currently has limited hours. They are open Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.; they are closed on Sundays.
Sí Señor Peruvian Sandwiches Grandview is clearly a favorite restaurant for people who live and work in the "Fifth by Northwest" neighborhood of Columbus. I would estimate that I had seen at least thirty people coming and going during the 45 minutes that I had spent there.
After first verifying that I could indeed eat my food there [a phrase on their website had led me to believe that they are "takeout only" which is no longer the case], I ordered the following: Jumping Beef Sandwich [sliced beef with sautéed onions and tomatoes, combined with special seasonings, melted manchego cheese, and avocado mayo on your choice of bread].
I spent the next fifteen minutes or so waiting for my food order while seated at a small table in a small dining room that had been filled with twenty or so customers who had been seated at small tables and had been using their cell phones.
My Jumping Beef Sandwich had been absolutely delicious and had been one of the best sandwiches that I have eaten in years. The one drawback to that absolutely delicious sandwich had been that it had been difficult to eat because its components had been sliding around so much.
Several times, one of the components of my sandwich [including a large piece of beef at one point] would fall to the foil wrapper that I had unfolded and had placed into my table to use as a placemat.
I would have preferred to have placed that sandwich onto a "dinner plate" and to have eaten it with a metal knife and fork [and possibly also a spoon] but that had not been an option.
If you are in the "Fifth by Northwest" neighborhood of Columbus and are looking for an absolutely delicious Peruvian sandwich, I strongly recommend Sí Señor Peruvian...
Read moreWhile waiting for carryout we sat at a table. The chair had horizontal slats at the back, and I grabbed under the top slat to pull the chair out. My hand ended up sticky — gross! After sitting down, I noticed a thick dry crust of something opaque across the table. I asked my friend, is it me, or is this table totally filthy? He said, yeah, it’s bad. We moved to another table. It wasn’t as gross, but had spills and rings and bits of food that could build up by noon if no one cleaned tables yet. We decided to stand and wait near the counter. I mentioned to the owner that, by the way, the table where we were sitting — the chair and tabletop were unusually dirty and gave details, and explained how my hand got sticky and dirty just pulling back the chair. He said, “Well, we’re busy today.” (No expression of regret, or so sorry!)
But I’ve worked in restaurants. This wasn’t the kind of scum that accumulates in an hour or two. It was long-term lack of cleaning in my opinion. I know the signs, such as the layer of black dirt along the base of the walls and a film on the floors because the floor is never really cleaned — the dirty water is just sloshed around (see photo). I know from being a server that it takes time to clean chairs properly, especially when there are lots of slats and parts, as these chair-backs have.
While standing and waiting, we noticed that our shoes were sticking to the floor a little, every time we took a step. Wow, things have really gone downhill at Si Senõr, it’s just sad.
I wish I’d gotten photos of the filthy tabletops, but the owner sent someone out to wipe them before I thought of getting a photo. I wasn’t that annoyed until the owner made no expression of regret or apology — just “we’re busy.”
I’m not confident about the food now. I doubt I’ll...
Read moreThis place is an absolute hidden gem. I’ve eaten a lot of sandwiches in my life, but nothing—and I mean nothing—comes close to the Chicharrón Peruano here. Perfectly crispy pork shoulder, a zesty salsa criolla, and that sweet potato mayo? Total flavor bomb. Every bite was balanced, bold, and beautifully layered.
Also tried the Pork & Pork, and let’s just say… pork lovers, this is your temple. The combination of chorizo, pork loin, provolone, and cilantro mayo is rich, satisfying, and straight-up addictive.
What I love most is the attention to detail: house-roasted meats, fresh bread, homemade sauces, and sides that aren’t just filler (shout-out to the cilantro pasta salad 👌). You can tell this place is run with heart and heritage.
Service is friendly and fast, though be prepared for a bit of a wait during the lunch rush—it’s 100% worth it. Pro tip: grab a Saturday ceviche if it's available. Light, fresh, and authentic.
If you haven't been to Si Señor yet, you're seriously missing out. It’s not just a sandwich shop—it’s a...
