This morning was the LAST time I will ever go to this coffee shop.
First off, I was cut in line by a regular customer. I’m assuming he was a regular because he didn’t say a word to the cashier and she just rang his drink up like she already knew it. The cashier didn’t even notice that I had been cut in line or seem to care.
After I ordered, I sat down at a table to wait for my two drinks (one of them being a drip coffee). Several customers came in after me, ordered, and then received their drinks before me.
After I realized that maybe they completely forgot my order, I got up and moved to a seat right in front of the bar. FINALLY the cashier noticed me waiting and then realized their mistake. The cashier and barista then proceeded to make the order without any sense of urgency. They also did not apologize for forgetting my order.
When I asked for some Oat Milk for my coffee, instead of grabbing it for me, the cashier made me walk around to the other side of the bar to get it and pour it myself. I don’t mind pouring it myself, but she was already behind the bar and could have just grabbed it and handed it to me…
The first time I visited this Upper Cup I had a very similar experience. In anticipation of another bad experience I only tipped $0.80. I’m glad I did that because that’s exactly what the service I received was worth.
The whole vibe of this place is incredibly UNWELCOMING. If you aren’t a regular customer you will not be treated very nicely. Both times I have visited the employees have been very unprofessional.
There are a lot of really good coffee shops in Columbus. This is not...
Read moreI've been to Upper Cup on Parsons several times.the first time was for a Drum Circle which was meeting there because their usual place was being renovated. I had a great time. Great coffee, friendly welcoming people. Very reminiscent of the 60's. The second time I took my sister along to the drum circle. She had as good a time as I had. She drinks some fancy coffee candy and asked the barista if he makes it. He was unfamiliar with it but said if she knew the ingredients he could make it for her. She rattled of about 10 ingredients. She remarked that it was better than where she usually buys her coffee. We enjoyed the drum circle. That night they also had belly dancers doing a demo. They had extra scarfs and invited people to dance. Well this 76 year old woman took lessons in the early 70's so I got up and had a great time. My sister also got up to dance with the group. My daughter was in town this week and I told her about my favorite coffee shop. She remembered Parsons Ave being a bit rough. I assured her that it has been/is being regentrified. She was as impressed with the coffee shop as much as my sister and I were.We had a wonderful visit and great coffee (I also had a tasty PB&J grilled sandwich). If you are looking for a Starbucks or Tim Hortons then this is not your place. If you are looking for a new experience then try it out. It is Ethiopian owned and has that type of vibe. Great people watching place. All ages of people-all types of apparel worn. Many different shades of skin tone and hair styles. Dreds are popular. My favorite place in Columbus to relax. Thank you...
Read moreThe first time I went to Upper Cup Coffee, I had an iced caramel latte and it was absolutely delicious. I also bought a bag of whole beans from El Salvador that day that turned out to be amazing. I've tried all of the single origins they currently have available except for one, Columbia, which I just bought today. They've all been great, but so far El Salvador and Panama are my favorites.
Edit: More than a year after finding out about Upper Cup, it's still my favorite cafe in Columbus. I've tasted my way through all of the coffees they cycle through and every single one of them is amazing. The staff is fantastic every time I'm here. And the prices are still incredibly reasonable. Sandwich, drink, and a pound of coffee for $30. I definitely prefer to be here when there are fewer patrons, but I hope they get as much business as they can handle because they deserve it. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.
Each time I've been in, the staff has been absolutely delightful to interact with, making the experience even better. I've seen the place absolutely full and I've seen it with only a handful of patrons, but the staff are great regardless of how busy they are.
When it's on the fuller side, it is fairly noisy, as one would expect. But when it's on the lighter side, it's the perfect place to sip on a latte and read a book.
And the prices are extremely reasonable: $20 total for a latte and a bag of specialty single-origin coffee. I have no complaints except that I can't be...
