We visited Mariscos La Playita in Concord on a Sunday. The service was good, very attentive and friendly staff. There was live mariachi music, which gave the place a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. That said, if you’re not used to loud environments, you might prefer sitting toward the back of the restaurant, where it’s much quieter.
As for the food, it was just okay. We ordered the shrimp a la Karky (I believe that was the name), and they were pretty watery. They might work better with a drier preparation, maybe something closer to shrimp a la piedra. We also had a shrimp and octopus cocktail, and it literally had just four shrimp in it—not what you’d expect. The tostada with shrimp and octopus was also a letdown. The octopus was overcooked, rubbery, and not properly cleaned.
Honestly, it felt like whoever is in charge of the kitchen might not have much experience with seafood dishes. The quality of the food was quite poor overall.
On the bright side, the atmosphere was lively, there’s plenty of parking. So while the ambiance and service were solid, the food definitely needs improvement, especially if they’re aiming to serve authentic,...
Read moreI've been here twice now! Both times so unimpressed! The food is subpar.. (note: I'm 100% Mexican). When I say subpar, I mean the food is seriously BLAND. Like GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! BBQ at home and you will be much happier. The drinks suck. The service sucks The mariachi music... not worth the hype. There are better places with better food, better drinks and better service. Seriously! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! More importantly... the bartenders will look for ways to take advantage of you. We asked for the check after the servers severely lagged on service... they offered us shots, which we presumed were for the delay... they added those to our tab too.. and we didn't even ask for them. Look at the reviews below. Spend your money elsewhere! Should you decide otherwise... mark my...
Read moreWow, it tasted like the refried beans were watered down. Just beans and water.. I eat Mexican food everywhere. I’ve never had refried beans taste like water.. the chili relleno is only 3.99,then the plate is 11.00. Boiled rice with coloring and refried beans that taste like water for another 7.00. The super burrito with pastor was good but they put way too much pico de Gallo. I won’t be going here again. Sat at the end of the bar in front of the server and she walked past me 6 times until I asked her if I can order. Poor customer service. But waaaaay worse beans and rice, the worst. 2 stars for the flavor of the...
