Refused entry due to my SERVICE DOG! I have a psychiatric service dog, who has been by my side for 9 years now. Recently my husband and I visited Papa’s on the lake in Montgomery Tx and they refused entry specifically due to my service dog. This restaurant has always been open and strict on their no pet policy and I can respect that. I don’t make it a habit to visit establishments such as Papa’s. I do not take my service dog places that may put him in harms way, such as loud concerts or bars. However, My sister, brother in law and their two children (under 5yo) were camping in their 5th wheel at the camp ground next door and we all wanted to get some food without having to load everyone up and drive somewhere ( I’m sure I should not have to justify why I was attending an establishment). I was there with my husband and my two Foster Children (7yo & 14yo). So we all walked over to Papa’s. As usual we were stopped at the door and I was asked the normal questions. Is he a service dog? YES. What task does he perform? He provides reality checks for me by way of a “who’s there” command. The man said to me that he’s not familiar with that task so he believes it doesn’t qualify and could not let me in. I explained that even though I’m in no way obligated to reveal why I need a Service Dog, the task is related to my psychosis. I told him to please get the manager, he told me he would not get the manager because he just asked the waitress and she apparently confirmed that this does not qualify. He also accused me of trying to lie and that my service dog is just an emotional support animal that isn’t covered under the ADA. I mentioned that he is in no way an authority able to determine if my disability is legitimate or not. He insisted otherwise and that my service dog doesn’t qualify. I then told him he is discriminating against me and my disability. He asked me to leave the premises, so we gathered our children and left. This issue maybe due to their ill-informed staff having a pre conceived idea of what a service dog, or a disabled person should “look like”. Hidden disabilities are so very common and discrimination like this makes it so much harder for this particular group of people to function normally in public. I’m sure if I was a man with a High and Tight hair cut leading a German shepherd around no one would question my legitimacy. I do believe that my appearance as a younger white female that has nothing apparently “wrong”, contributed to this incident as well as my dog being a Lemon Beagle and not a Golden retriever or German Shepherd. I have filed a complaint with the ADA and reached out to local Authorities for advice on how to better inform local establishments...
Read moreWhen I travel, I try to seek out new places for food and beverage and I am always happy to try out a new place that offers great views. A visit to Lake Conroe offers several such options and the largest restaurant of them all, located waterfront with a view, is Papa’s on the Lake.
This restaurant is located on the south shores of Lake Conroe and it features a nice size parking lot, making it easy to put the vehicle in place and make your way inside. Once you walk through the doors, you will be greeted by an atmosphere that is casual all the way, the type of place you would feel comfortable wearing shorts and a t-shirt. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and even a small pool in the back, right next to the water. They even have places where boaters can dock their boats while they head inside for food and drink.
Papa’s on the Lake serves bar food such as appetizers, salads, sandwiches, seafood, tacos, pizza, etc. I like to start off with an appetizer or two for the family and I have found the mozzarella sticks a good option. I then usually go for one of the sandwich baskets, which consists of the sandwich and fries. The food isn’t going to win any awards, but it is good and fairly priced. In fact, considering this is a waterfront restaurant, the prices are lower than expected.
The drinks served here are okay and they have a decent selection of beer. But the most important reason to visit Papa’s on the Lake is the view of the lake itself. The last time I was here, it was later in the day, just before sunset. The colors in the sky and the cool breeze from the lake made the visit worthwhile.
I love a dining experience with a great view and that is what you get at Papa’s on the Lake. The food may not be outstanding, but the views are excellent and this is reason enough to consider this restaurant for lunch, dinner, or drinks on your next visit to...
Read moreThis was probably the worst restaurant I have been to in a good while. Was invited to go there by friends who have an 8 year old son to watch the 4th of July fireworks display. Arrived about 5pm and was under the impression that "Papa's" was part of the chain restaurants. Sadly it isn't. Looked at menu expecting to see raw Oysters or shrimp or catfish beings we were on the lake, but again I was sadly mistaken. Settled for some extremely overpriced French fries to share with my husband. Which that's what our friends should have ordered cause the beef fajita nachos they ordered were not only extremely over priced but they were not even eatable. So 5 people ate French fries and couldn't find our waitress to complain about the bad fajitas after the meals were paid for. The long Island Ice teas were horrible. Our friends were charged a $15 deposit for the bean bags to play corn hole that was not refunded and was charged an additional $36 for the game that they told him he would have to dispute with his credit card company because they couldn't refund his $ at the time. Their 8 year old son wasn't allowed to swim in the pool and the waterfall that he was allowed to run under was shut off about an hour after arriving. There's a 21 years and up policy for the pool. If they had known that's the rules they wouldn't have picked the awful place to begin with. We ended up leaving before dark after playing pool with their 7 year old son to watch the fireworks at a red light on fm 105 that was stuck on red and wouldn't change. Biggest disappointment we've all had in such a long time from any restaurant locally. Do not recommend going there unless you live in lah lah land and mommy and daddy are still paying your...
