Was really looking forward to trying this place out after reading some of the reviews. We try to stick with small restaurants instead of large chains, especially during these rough times for small businesses. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my experience.
We were one of two tables inside(the other table was finishing up). A few tables we seen outside were occupied, but not crowded. We made reservations. It seemed to be two employees serving and bartending. Immediately after being seated, we overheard one of the bartenders complaining about the tables outside. You can tell he wasn't in the best mood(we've all been there).
We ordered two of their specialty drinks, and neither of us liked our drinks, but we consumed them without complaining. We ordered 2 basic appetizers, just to hold us over until we decided on our entrées, that's when things went downhill, FAST. We waited over 40 minutes for our appetizers, in a empty restaurant. Multiple times we were told "your food will be out shortly". By time our appetizers came out, I had already decided I wasn't ordering a entrée because I wasn't waiting another 30+ minutes to eat.
To make matters worse, two guys came in, sat down, and got their appetizers in less than 10 minutes! They were obviously regular guest of the restaurants, and qere friends with one of the servers/bartenders, as they were conversating the entire time. After we paid our tab and left the restaurant, we noticed there were no patrons outside at the tables. So why our food took approximately 40 minutes...
Read moreI never write negative reviews (especially with local businesses), as I understand that every restaurant has bad days. However, this used-to-be favorite has been dropping the ball consistently and I feel that I’ve hit the point of choosing to spend my money elsewhere.
Guppy’s used to be great, but in the last year they’ve taken a big quality hit. I was a weekly regular and decided to pull back as a result of the varying food quality with each visit. They’ve changed their fries, which are now either limp and cold, or overdone and inedible. The jeweler joes chicken sandwich was always a favorite. Not sure if they’ve changed their chicken distributed, or the kitchen staff has gotten lazy, but the portions are significantly smaller, and the chicken has a different texture now. My biggest frustration of all is the lack of detail in takeout orders. Every time I order online, they forget a side of fries (or give me a 1/4 sized portion, which is clearly the bottom of a batch), or don’t pay attention to gluten free requests (my partner is celiac and now refuses to eat their food after several order mistakes).
While I understand that mistakes can be made, it’s just been too many for me to not address via a review. I loved this place and want to see it continue to thrive, but I find it hard to support them when the only consistency they have is disappointing results. With a healthy price tag, they should be able to get orders done right...
Read moreI used to live right down the street from Guppy's before moving out of state. Now that I'm back visiting I met some friends there for drinks. The draft offering has certainly improved but they serve all of their drafts with too much head and short you on the amount of beer you get in the glass. The male server allowed my empty glass to sit on the bar about half the time I was there. For a while he was too busy plunging one of the bar sinks to notice I needed another beer. I chose to seek help from another server as the thought of plunger hands serving my beer didn't sit well with me. When I sought out the other server she grabbed my used glass and started pouring a new beer into it. She seemed confused when I asked for a fresh glass as it was a different beer that I ordered than what I had in the glass. I would expect that at dive bars but not a bar that offers sushi and is trying to be more of a beer drinkers bar. After I finished the overly foamed beer I let the empty glass sit on the bar for another 15 minutes before the plunger guy finally noticed and offered to help me again. Disappointing service to...
