This was a bit ago, and I didn't get a chance until now to review. But when I think about it, I still get mad, it's caused me a lot of trouble even way after our order.
We had a very negative experience there as our first experience. I made the order online, and I went to pick up. On my way there, they called and said they didn't have one of the orders, and asked if it's ok if we sub it for something else. I was driving and didn't have the chance to look if there was anything else we'd like instead, so I said that's fine.
It was a company order, so I paid with a company card, and the receipt needs to be submitted to accounting. After I took the food to our dinner place, we then realized that an item was missing. So I called them to ask about it, one of the younger workers answered and as soon as I said we were missing an order, he was like ..."yeaaah ...". So that means they knew about them item being left out of the order and never bothered to tell me about it. So now one person doesn't have food. I asked to talk to the manager, he came in and was a bit impatient, like I'm pulling him away from something more important, and says ok we'll refund it back on the card. But that still means my receipt is incorrect and won't match the actual amount in the card, which will create a lot of trouble when I am submitting the receipt. Their location is 30 minutes away, we can't drive back for the receipt. So I asked him to be emailed a new receipt. The so called manager then starts to yell at me, saying its just a small amount, why can't I trust them to put it back on the card.
I was pretty calm until then, I know mistakes happen, and Im not the type to hang on to a mistake. But up until that point, not a single person had apologized or said anything about them making a mistake. That comment blew my lid. So I told him he didn't even apologize for the mistake and I had to call back even though they knew about it and obviously had my contact. Then he yells at me on the phone, "... I'm SORRY, are you HAPPY now!". Those were his exact words. Seriously ... ?? I've never gotten that kind of sarcastic and condescending tone before from a service industry yet. In fact it's rare to hear that kind of tone at all. It completely lacked professionalism as a manager and consideration as a fellow person.
Maybe I've been blessed in my interactions with people? Then he goes on about how they did me a favor by swapping in something for the first order that they didn't have, which they called me about, which honestly was not what we really wanted.
Maybe the food is not bad, but honestly after being yelled at for a mistaken THEY made, the food did not taste good. I still had to deal with explaining to accounting about the mismatched amount.
So if you eat there, better hope there's nothing wrong with the order, cause you can't count on them to rectify any of the inconvenience...
Read moreI recently visited Dolan Uyghur Restaurant with my best friend and her parents. We decided to share a variety of dishes to explore the menu together, and it turned out to be an unforgettable dining experience.
To start, the service treated us to the house tea, Dolan Chay, which accompanied us from beginning to end. It was incredibly delicious and refreshing, perfectly complementing the meal and enhancing every bite.
We started with the Samsa, an oven-baked bun filled with minced beef and onions, perfectly seasoned with black pepper and topped with sesame seeds. It was flavorful and had a delightful texture. Alongside it, we had the Chuchura Soup, a heartwarming mini-dumpling soup with minced beef, lamb, onions, and a touch of black pepper. Both appetizers were fantastic and set the tone for the rest of the meal.
Main Courses: Korma Chop with Beef (we ordered two): This Uyghur-style dish featured signature fried noodles with chives, onions, red bell peppers, and tender beef. It was bursting with flavor and became my absolute favorite! Dolan Laghman: A hearty dish with hand-pulled chewy noodles, sautéed beef, vegetables, and a savory oyster-flavored sauce. The textures and flavors blended beautifully. Lamb Kebabs (we ordered two skewers): Perfectly marinated chunks of lamb, seasoned with cumin and house spices, and grilled to perfection. The smoky flavor and tender meat made this dish a standout for us. Kawa Goshnan: A traditional Uyghur-style fried bread stuffed with butternut squash, onions, and bell peppers, seasoned with black pepper and house spices. This dish was both unique and incredibly satisfying. Every single dish was absolutely delicious, offering a variety of unique textures and flavors. While my favorites were the Korma Chop with Beef and the Lamb Kebabs, I genuinely want to come back to try everything on the menu!
We ended the meal with the Chocolate Baklava, a dessert made with fine flour, egg, pistachio, lemon salt, sugar, butter, cocoa, and chocolate. It was rich, indulgent, and absolutely unforgettable—truly another standout dish that perfectly closed our evening.
The service was exceptional, with Moon taking great care of us and making us feel right at home. The restaurant itself has a cozy, warm, and welcoming atmosphere that enhances the overall experience.
I highly recommend Dolan Uyghur Restaurant to anyone looking to explore authentic Uyghur cuisine. It’s a true gem, and I can’t...
Read moreTucked away in Chantilly, VA, Dolan stands as a rare gem in the culinary landscape, one of the few bastions of Uyghur cuisine that invites diners on an epicurean journey along the Silk Road. This isn't just dining; it's an exploration of a rich tapestry of flavors where Greek, Persian, and Arabic influences interweave with Central Asian traditions to create something truly unique.
The adventure begins with Beef Samsa, oven-baked buns that could easily be the currency of flavor in ancient trade routes. Stuffed with minced beef and onions, these buns are a testament to the crossroads of cultures, each sesame sprinkle a nod to the culinary connections between distant lands.
The Piter Manta and Goshnan are not mere dishes; they're culinary narratives, each steam or slice a story of Uyghur's rich cultural mosaic. Whether it's the steamed buns filled with seasoned beef or the traditional meat pie that's a hearty handshake between beef and lamb, Dolan delivers a dining experience that's as much a history lesson as it is a feast.
Then there's the Royal Laghman, a dish that pulls you in with hand-pulled chewy noodles and doesn't let go. Topped with beef and a vibrant array of stir-fried veggies, it's a plate that proudly carries the banner of Uyghur culinary prowess, seasoned with the history of a thousand caravans.
And for those who tread the spicier paths, the Hot Chicken Stew and Dry Fried Chicken offer a spectrum of heat that ranges from a mild whisper to a fiery declaration, all while keeping the symphony of flavors in perfect harmony.
Dessert brings the journey to a sweet conclusion with varieties of baklava that are layers upon layers of history in each bite, including a chocolate twist that's as innovative as the Silk Road was adventurous.
Dolan is more than a restaurant; it's a rare portal to the Uyghur world, serving up dishes that reflect centuries of cultural exchanges. With a setting that's welcoming and a menu that's a mosaic of influences, every meal is a bridge between cultures, and the legacy of the Silk Road lives on, one delicious...
