My husband and I were in town for a concert in Hopewell so we found this restaurant on Google as a quick, close place to eat. When we first walked in around 5pm, we were pleasantly surprised by the lovely atmosphere. It was a remodeled, old building, turned industrial restaurant. We were warmly greeted and quickly approached at our table with menus. They do offer a smaller menu but there's something for everyone to choose from. We both chose to get a pulled pork sandwich. We shared a side of fries, Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. The sandwich was good. It had a nice flavor and was not over sauced. The fries were absolutely delicious!!! Perfectly seasoned and piping hot! The Cole slaw came in a TINY cup and was barely enough to even put on a sandwich. It also left something to be desired. It was the oldest slaw I've ever had. It had pineapple in it with a kick of something. It wasn't horrible. Just not for me or him. The Mac and cheese was absolutely disgusting!! It was stone cold and bland. I swear, it was as if they made it first thing in the morning and let it sit in a pan all day long. I couldn't believe they would actually have the nerve to take the time to scoop that crap into a cup and serve it to a customer. We didn't complain to the server about it but we did ask her if she could heat it up for us. She seemed surprised by our request and quickly brought us another one that was hot and actually tasted really good. I don't know what was going on with the first one. We spent about $35 after tip in total. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would probably return the next time we're in town...
Read moreSaucy’s was recommended to try while in the area so I decided to give it a shot. They have a small but mighty menu. Their place is clean and does not smell of smoke, which was unfortunate because that is usually a great sign of amazing Q, bonus for smoke smell inside and out. Unfortunately it was not to be.
They did not have any multi-meat combos, but they were able to add another meat with no bun. This was an acceptable alternative.
Each plate came with two sides. I selected the Mac and cheese and sweet potato. Both were ample in portion size but both failed in flavor. The Mac and cheese was like wallpaper paste in taste and consistency. The cheese was congealed and not saucy as their name would imply. The sweet potato was very bland and had no real flavor other than pepper. Both were also luke warm.
The mains I selected were the brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was the best part of the meal. Very nice bark and pepper flavor. The only downside was it was chopped and I was not asked if I wanted wet or lean. So it was combined. I asked if the pork was vinegar based and was told it was. It definitely was not what I was expecting for a Carolina style pork or sauce. The pork was more like a Memphis dry rub with a vinegar tomato based sauce. The sauce was not very runny either, instead it was quite thick.
Overall it was OK but the temp of food needs to be hotter as all items were very luke warm. On the plus side the staff was very friendly and they offer a nice military discount. The inside service and seating area was...
Read moreWent there expecting no taste and hi prices based upon my experience at their walk-up stand. Was somewhat pleasantly surprised. Food tasted better than it did my last few time eating their fare, but that was about 2- 3 yrs ago. They've learned that using seasoning won't kill a customer.
Had the sampler chicken was moist, tender. The only recommendation I have is to crisp the skin some. Sauce was good. Brisket slider was decent. Probably would've wanted the rib cooked a bit more tender but my dining buddy was able to manhandle it w/o a problem.
Sides: I like the sweet bean trio. Kinda like 3 bean salad but slightly warm, slightly sweeter, thicker. Liked potato salad too.
Beverages consist of canned coke prods except tea, lemonade which r homemade.
Dessert: a bit weird. Had fried moonpie. Not bad but had a slightly too-salty undertone (crushed toffee coating perhaps?) Might try again.
Asked for cheesecake which I was told would b plain with strawberry topping. Instead I got something with a chocolate layer and nuts. Despite the total difference from what was described, it wasn't bad except that the topping was (drumroll plz) RED PEPPER JELLY...of all things!!! No strawberry topping. Pepper jelly didn't click with cheesecake one bit. Not a good marriage of sweet and savory. Don't know if kitchen made a mistake or not. Needed either an explanation, apology or refund for this travesty. YUCK!
Overall, I'd return if in the mood for it, not when I'm...
