I debated leaving this review, but I think it’s best to be honest and let others know. I tried to go here for breakfast last month but had such an uncomfortable experience. I am a person of color and went here with my friend who is African American. When we sat down to order breakfast, one of the employees—an older woman of European descent—began to clean the counter for us. We were in all smiles and really looking forward to breakfast. She asked us where we were from, so we told her we were from Los Angeles. The conversation was totally normal until she proceeded to tell us about some previous customers she could not believe were from Oakland, California. She described them as being “really, really, really Black,” implying that because of their skin color it was impossible for them to be from Oakland. Our mouths dropped. She said they were actually Kenyan and completed her embarrassing display of ignorance by stating, “They were beautiful, though.” We felt so uncomfortable and disappointed as we just wanted to have breakfast, but in less than a minute an employee saw our skin and thought a great conversation would involve talking about skin color and how “really Black” people could not be Californian, American, or whatever she meant. We immediately got up and left and told the manager who offered to comp our meals, but it was so disturbing we didn’t even bother.
So, if you choose to come here and you’re a person of color, just keep in mind that at least one of the employees will seem to think you stand out so much in this area that they can’t help but talk about skin color or imply that non-white people can’t be from around there. Just FYI. I truly hope the manager talked to the employee and that the employee has reflected on why beginning those conversations in a business establishment (but really anywhere) is unprofessional, rude, and makes people of color very uncomfortable. I didn’t even notice that 99% of everyone in there was white until she made a point to remind us that we weren’t. Truly a “Get...
Read moreKingsbury location. Service was sleepy slow , food was decent ( nothing to write home about ) we had to ask the hostess to send our waitress over so we could order ( after being seated for 20 minutes). We waited over 1/2 hour to get our food once ordered. Mind you the waitress had not returned to ask if we needed anything or an update on our breakfast status, another waitress finally delivered our breakfast ( not a big deal) no one came by to ensure our food was to our liking!! Again had to ask the buss staff for more coffee. Still haven’t seen our waitress. We finished our meal and waited another 20 minutes before having to request a to go box and our check, which took another 10 minutes to get , I paid at the register and that took over 10 minutes to complete. Not sure what is going on at this location but we will not be back. Staff seemed very unmotivated, uncaring and just appeared to not wanting to be there.
As a side note, when we arrived there were 2 spots open at the bar which we were very willing to take . The hostess responded that they perter to have one seat between guests. However during our time there people came and left the bar with no empty seat between guests. I’m so confused why we couldn’t have sat there when they clearly don’t follow their own rules. Very...
Read moreAll the adults are in the kitchen so the food is great, but the services are ran by a really young staff who ruin the experience.
Started with a young hostess telling us there was a 20 min wait, 60 min later we sat down.
We were seated outside on lush green grass, and associated wet puddles beneath our table to possibly morning dew that hadnt gotten sun yet... then we noticed the bussing staff close out a table near us by pouring all the unfinished drinks under the tables.
Food came out fast, tasted great, but they forgot the sides. Coffee was tasteless brown water, and multiple tables were exchanging it for juice.
Paying the tab was complicated as another young staff member couldn't read our young waiters writing on the tickets. We were then overcharged by 30%. When the cashier went to give a refund and charge the correct amount, she instead refunded the 30% overcharge, and charged us the correct amount. But by this math we paid twice. We were able to get a refund for the first payment and settled our bill.
At no point were we offered a discount or apologies for...
