So, we're out and about and food is on the mind, so my wife, knowing I am a BBQ guy all day, says we should try this place.
Atmosphere is nice the outside looks more like an old house with a porch. Once we were seated, we were met with these corn and cheese biscuits. They were buttery and soft! You get 6, but I could have eaten these alone...
One thing about Jim "N Nick's is that this is smoked BBQ, which differs from grilled meats. Smoking meat breaks down the collagen, which is why it gets so tender and delicious. Smoking the meats they offer takes some time, and they smoke their meats for 24 hours, ensuring you get the tender and juiciest parts.
If you're looking for BBQ slathered with BBQ sauce, that's not happening here. Smoked meats are seasoned and smoked, BBQ sauce is on the side, maybe you want it on your meats, but you don't have to, it's fine just smoked. There is a REAL difference of the 2 ways to do meats. If you haven't tried smokes, you're missing out. Sauce is served on the side... This is the reason there are different tastes for 30 minute BBQs and 24 hour BBQ smoked meats.
That being said...
Our appetizer was smoked wings with honey habanero BBQ sauce, the sauce is the real treat, the wings were smoked to perfection, moist as smoking will do.
We did our obvious Long Island Iced Teas, and this was no disappointment here. House was done very well, not sweet or tart, right in the middle, Goldilocks style...(I hope you get the reference).
Our entree's were excellent choices by our server... I had the Mr. Jim's 2 meat Combo Plate, smoked turkey breast, and the Carolina-style pork ribs... I couldn't keep the turkey on the fork, it kept falling off, super tender and well seasoned.
The ribs were just as good, tore it off the bone with no effort. Had the white sauce and it was something I haven't tried, which is exclusive to here. It was great and different.
My side was the corn and I chose the Brisket Chili. That chili was knocked out of the park. It is a very filling dish, but I finished it and the brisket cuts just melted in your mouth. Should have got one to go...
My wife's entrée was Karl's Fried Catfish Plate, with a sides of collard greens and mac n cheese. Both side were on point. The catfish was a corn based breading, and came with tartar sauce. That dish went fast...
After enjoying our meal, with to go boxes. It was suggested to try the banana pudding... Not everyone can make it the old style way. This was a slight different take on it, mixed with whipped cream, it had the wafers, and it was a sweeter version than we were used to, but nonetheless, a good ending to a great meal.
Overall, Jim 'N Nick's BBQ is a place that we will come back to for the fall off the bone smoked BBQ. If you're in Conyers and want some BBQ, give this place a go. Especially is you have tried smoked BBQ over grilled. You will be surprised...

This was an extremely disappointing experience to have at a location during lunch time, out of peak hours, and on a Monday. Were we seated immediately? Yes. The hostess was efficient. Did the waitress come over and greet us? Sure. Selena came over and offered beverages and came back with them. At the time we were seated, it looked like we were the only patrons in her section. After awhile another party was seated by us, but I sensed they were regulars because they immediately ordered. Unfortunately, this is when the turn of events began.
Out of a group of three, only one person's food was brought out initially (expected they had a simple order) and then ten minutes later the rest of the food brought out. The sides were fairly hot, but the meats were cold. Keep in mind this is a BBQ establishment, so cold meat is the last thing you should expect. We picked around our plates until Selena finally came back over: We expressed that the food was not right as it had come out lukewarm. The manager came back with our plates -- meat only after an additional ten to fifteen minutes. At this point our sides were cold, and another party was seated near us. Now with three parties in her section and the rest of the resturaunt fairly empty, I commend her for keeping the refills and bringing take home containers for our food.
The point of no return started with her dropping the check off, as I am not sure of the logic of never returning for the check. First, we placed our form of payment in plain view at the table. Plain view. Second, she passed us several times to serve a larger party directly across from our booth. Third, each time she passed by we were STILL IGNORED. Fourth, one of the last times she passed by we actively waved to her as to get her attention, she passed on by to wait the other party. Fifth, we watched in disbelief as she continued to serve the other table with care and attention, all the while our credit card sat there lonely. Finally, the rest of my party left to the car and I went to the restroom.
To add insult to the injury of pointed neglect, I opened the door: Absolutely disgusting! Only two of the three stalls were working; an employee was singing in the larger stall; and the stall left for use was barely functional.
Of course once I left the restroom, I asked the highest manager on duty (LeAnn) for contact information. She apologized and accommodated me by providing information about the GM and Owner of the store. Altogether though, it was still a very disappointing experience.
SUMMARY
Food: Good, when it's hot
Service: Horrible! If it is bad during slow times, imagine peak. If we had an issue during our visit, we should have been looked after the rest of the time to ensure customer...
Read moreCyndi and I were out touring houses. Our friend Michelle Disher is a Realty broker and she had four houses in the Conyers Georgia area for us to review. We met at noon at the first house. It checked off most of our requirements but was a little high for our budget. At the second house, there was a ramp up to the front door, but no lockbox and the agent didn’t answer the door. House number three was on a steep slope. There were 40 stairs to get to the back yard. This meant that Kent and Cyndi would likely never actually go there. It had an unfinished basement, again down a steep set of stairs. Finally, the floor plan was not quite set up for our needs. Dealbreaker: only two bathrooms. House number four was another that we didn’t even go into. It seemed cramped and uncomfortable even from the driveway. After that, we started talking about where to go for a late lunch. We had driven past Jim and Nick’s three times during our farago and neither Cyndi nor Michelle had ever been there. I have been to Jim and Nick’s several times with a great experience each time. I had brisket with barbecued corn on the cob and macaroni & cheese. Michelle chose pulled pork and Cyndi got a sampler plate of pulled pork and barbecued chicken. They brought tons of food to the table, started with incredible cheese biscuits. They also brought full soft drinks when the ones we had grew low. The majority of the patrons were dressed in their church clothes, and were getting an after-church meal. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon and the crowd was friendly. We might or might not have found our dream home but we had a dreamy meal at...
