I cannot possibly say enough good things about this place! They went so far above and beyond what is typically expected from an establishment I will recommend them to any and everyone I know. This review is somewhat lengthy but please read because this is service that is unheard of nowadays!
Long story short, I live about an hour north of Atlanta and I have a very good friend who lives in Conyers and is struggling with very serious health issues that keep him in and out of the hospital. His most recent visit was to Piedmont Rockdale and as much as I wanted to come visit him I just didn’t have the time, so I wanted to get him his favorite meal to give him some comfort.
He told me his favorite meal is the Greek Feta Burger from Whistle Post Tavern, which is amazing from what I hear. I told him I would have Grub Hub or Uber Eats deliver it and I’d call him back with an estimated delivery time.
I checked online and found that neither business delivers for Whistle Stop Tavern so I called the bar directly, hoping that they might offer some kind of in-house delivery service. I spoke with Misty, the incredibly professional and charming bartender, and she said that unfortunately they don’t deliver.
At this point, I told her briefly what my friend is going through and that the hospital was close by and explained that it is his favorite meal and he goes there all the time. Misty then said, “I wonder if it’s one of my regulars who always comes here and gets the Greek feta burger?” I proceeded to describe him (he is a very tall and charming guy so he’s hard to miss) and she immediately said, “Oh my God! That’s him. He’s so sweet!” I then asked, against all reason and normal expectations, if they might be gracious enough to make an exception and bring him the food given the circumstances. She said very politely that she could talk to the owner, Linda, but they were a bit short staffed and couldn’t make any promises, which was absolutely fair and reasonable. She put me on hold and I waited patiently.
A few moments later she came back on the phone and told me that she couldn’t promise a delivery time but that they would find some way to get it to him before 5 the same day!!! What a blessing and what an incredible way to show love and concern for your patrons. I am still so taken aback by this I can’t say enough!!!!
If you ever are lucky enough to be in the area and are looking for a restaurant or bar, do yourself a favor and go have some delicious food and drinks at a business that has such a big heart and truly cares about people. Hopefully you will get the chance to meet Misty, the bartender extraordinaire and/or Linda, the owner. Do me a favor and shake their hand and tell them about this story because these are the best kind of people you could hope to take care of...

The Whistle Post is just 'ok'.
While the servers are friendly, the service is very slow, whether they are packed full, or have 3 tables seated.
While the food isn't horrible, it's nothing to brag about either and some items are priced way too high if they want to be able to compete with the chain restaurants in the area. There is also no rhyme or reason to some of the menu items. Do they want to be a steak house with burgers and prime rib and traditional items you would see in a higher end steak house? Do they want to be more of a family style place? With treats for the kids like funnel cake? The menu just seems disjointed with too many options.
They also lack basic things you would see at a table, there were no sugars at the table, and no salt and pepper. As a former server myself I can tell you, the presentation of the table is one of the first things a customer sees. It's the tiny details that get noticed.
The restrooms are ALWAYS clean. MAJOR BONUS POINTS, never have I seen the bathroom even the slightest bit dirty.
Also while i do understand the decor is supposed to represent a bit of the main and history of Old Town it seems dated and very dark, even in the early afternoon on a sunny day.
To note on my above comment about the menu, I think maybe the Whistle Post is having an identity crisis as well. Are they a family establishment? Then why no children after a certain hour? Are they trying to pull an older crowd with poker nights? Or do they want a younger hipper crowd with the live DJ on the weekends? I think they have TOO many things they are trying to do, instead of just doing 1 thing perfectly.
All in all it's not somewhere I would go out of my way to go or to recommend to friends because it just doesn't stand out like some of the other places in Conyers.
I think if they had a clearer message as to what type of establishment they want to be and represent, streamlined their menu, trained the servers to be a bit quicker on their feet in high pressure situations and brightened up the place they would be able to give the chain places a run for their money. You can tell the staff love The Whistle Post and their customers which is refreshing. I just wish they put 100% in 1 thing instead of dividing that energy between 10...
Read moreWhere to start? We walked in to a sign that says "seat yourself", only to wait almost 20 min before anyone acknowledged our existence, even though people who came in after us had already been served. They expressed they were short staffed. Ok, we're patient, we will give it a chance. We ordered water, cups came with the straws in them...no wrapper on the end. We ordered wings and mozzarella sticks for appetizers. Which are supposed to come before the food, right? Not here. Our sandwiches came. No wings. No mozzarella sticks. Our wings came out on a tray with food for another table. The server proceeded to sit them on the other table. After they told her they weren't theirs she took them back to the kitchen. My sandwich was made wrong, toppings (that were listed on the menu, not requested extra) were left off someone else in my party's sandwich. After sitting there for 10 minutes, the server finally came back with the wings and I sent my sandwich back, and we reminded her of the missing toppings. 10 minutes later, she brings missing toppings. 5 minutes later she brings back my sandwich after walking around confused because she forgot where it was supposed to go... still no mozzarella sticks. So I ask her to remove them from my bill. We never got refills on our drinks. The best thing any of us had tonight was the ranch we dipped the carrots in that came with the wings that were supposed to be lemon pepper but had no seasoning on them. It also smelled like a sewerage leak in there when you walked in the door.
I will give it to the young man who was singing. He was good! And after how our visit started, he was the only reason we stayed. But regardless if he's playing there again...we will...
