Have only been there for lunch and to play trivia on TapTV. Being the way things are these days I cannot say for sure what the true lunch crowd might look like but the times I've been, there has been only a small handful of people.
Decor is your standard pub decor with TV's in most places that would offer decent viewing if that is what your wanting. The bar offerings seem decent, the local Calf Killer Brewing and a selection from around the country on tap and your standard American macros in bottles. The food menu at lunch time seems to be designed for ease/speed, from a grilled cheese sandwich to the classic burger and fries. They also offer a loaded french fry basket that was not bad at all. Over all the food is what you would expect from bar service. It's decent, hot & will fill your stomach for under a ten spot if your own your own.
Cost wise each time it's been about $25 with tax/tip(20% tip) which is basically each having a lunch entree and soft drink/iced tea and a drink or two from the bar. Service is about what you expect from a pub at lunch in a college town. The server was fairly attentive until food was dropped off then we didn't see them again until it was time to leave. That left us with empty glasses half way through lunch and needing napkins that never came. It was perhaps the only down point to any of the visits.
The TapTV is the bigger draw for us. My wife and I love to play trivia games and with the TapTV it gives us something to do while we wait/eat. That it's played online versus other individuals and locations across the country makes it more competitive and the service has various game styles through the day. If you haven't checked it out, it's worth a lunch stop to play a round of two. Each one lasts only about 15-20 minutes if in...
Read moreSeptember 30, 2024 - This Irish ☘️ Pub would be one of my favorite gathering places for so many reasons . . . but ?
On our way to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. . . My wife and I Googled Irish Pubs, we hit on Hooligans , so we tried it ! Lively, Monday Night Football playing on 7 TVs! Good crowd enjoying their beers, their food, their friends, and their cigarettes!
Although most tables had smokers, we stayed, didn’t complain, and enjoyed our beers, food, and NFL game on tv. We asked our server, Kayla about the pub’s smoking policy? She said the owners installed good air filtering system ( which I had to agree)!
Smoking isn’t part of our world, so we probably won’t return. My only suggestion would be to have a disclaimer on their website, and front door. Smoking in a restaurant should be up front, especially if 1st time visitors are unaware, and might enter with young children. Otherwise, folks can make their own decisions.
I do like Irish pubs, and traveled to Ireland to sample first hand their lovely island, culture, food, beers, and music . 😃☘️🍺👍🏼
Not sure when this pub first opened? I hope they stay true to their Irish roots! Shepherd’s Pie is on the menu ( ground beef instead of lamb) . Would like to see/hear some Irish music ? We’ve heard some great Irish performers in Ireland! 🇮🇪 Have the wait staff pronounce “ Smithwicks “ the Irish way! ☘️
Overall, I liked the food, and vibe here at Hooligans Half Irish Pub . . . maybe without...
Read moreUpdate to say 2 years later now that we've moved to the area, we still love coming here! Their air system is so good that we hardly notice people smoking. The service can be quite slow because it's such a large place and there's usually only one person working the bar and one on the floor when we go, but we know what we like and order everything at once to expedite. They're always so friendly and we've never eaten anything bad there. They've also not really increased their prices which we appreciate. Definitely a staple visit for us in Cookeville.
Sept. 2020 The food here was great, wonderful prices. It was pretty full, means the locals appreciate it! Service was pretty good considering how busy it was. The only thing that surprised me was even after looking at the website and checking things out before we decided where to eat I had no idea this was a smoking bar until we went in. Maybe this is more common in Tennessee, where we're from and other states I've visited it's not really allowed. We have no health issues and didn't really care in the grand scheme of things, but I feel like it should be more up front on the site so if someone does have health concerns they can make a more informed decision...
