Nick's has great food that is reasonably priced for an upscale restaurant!
We have family that has lived in Cookeville since 1990, and we visit from out of state a couple of times each year, but we somehow never knew about Nick's.
Recently we wanted to treat the family to a nice dinner, and Yelp produced Nick's. Great reviews lured us, and we were not disappointed.
We made reservations, though it was not required. Upon entering the restaurant there was a large table with a block of help-yourself-gouda. It was yummy. The complementary bread tasted like great grandma's homemade bread--delightful.
Our party enjoyed menu items from appetizers and soups, to salads and pastas, chicken and prime rib. Everything was delicious. We even enjoyed a decent bottle of wine.
The total bill averaged to around $30-$40/person, including tip. That is a fair price for a guaranteed deliciously satisfying dinner with family.

Read moreWent with my husband to celebrate my birthday expecting a delicious meal…not at all. He ordered the prime rib, baked potato and salad… it was good until we got half way home and he got sick! I ordered filet minion medium butterflied with roasted vegetables and chicken noodle soup. The steak was well done, not butterflied and it along with the vegetables looked and tasted like they were cooked in a crockpot…awful! I told our waiter, the manager come to me and said they would make a new one but I asked for fries instead of more veggies. It came back and was medium well, cut criss cross in the middle (to try to cook the inside I assume), it tasted nasty and was tough…filet is a very tender cut of meat 🤷🏼♀️ Ended up the fries were the best part of my meal, I left my food along with the first plate that they never took away! VERY disappointing and still paid the $84.00 bill plus tip…will NOT...
Read moreFirst of all, I think 3 stars is a little low, but I didn't want to go with 4 stars. Although I enjoyed my food and the service was great, there is a lot that could be improved at Nick's. The service was great and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the medium sized prime rib with baked potato. The portion size was great, but the steak was barely warm, but it tasted great. The salad and potato were pretty standard and were what I expected. I also had the breaded mushroom appetizer, I ate them, but I didn't like them at all. The reason that I wouldn't give this place 5 stars, or even 4 stars, is the appearance. It looks like it has been a couple of decades since its been remodeled. It just seems that this place is billing itself as a step above, a 5 star dining experience, but it doesn't...
