With the low lights, calm atmosphere, and family/sensory friendly menu this restaurant has been our go to "safe" environment with our neurodivergent child. Tonight we really needed a break and so came to our safe restaurant. However, we had a meltdown as we were taken to our table. Staff were patient and understanding. Immediately offering to accommodate in the most apparent ways. After we were able to get our child to the point of words he clarified that there was a specific table he wanted. Recognizing the inconvenience and knowing that we had already disrupted some people's evenings we apologized profusely and asked if there was any way we could be given the desired table. Our amazing server (whose name regrettably I can't recall) spoke with the manager and got approval to move us. He clarified that if the screaming were to make a resurgence we would be asked to leave which of course we understood completely. My wife had the upset child outside while I was inside with our other kid. As soon as we switched tables everything was fine and perfect. Our server acted like nothing had happened aside from a sweet and gentle reassurance that it was okay and we didn't need to be ashamed. It was a hard night that could have been made into a nightmare. We were ready to just leave. But Baker's Square made us feel at home to the best of their ability with the important caveat that they don't do so at the expense of other diners' experiences.
If you were there tonight we're sorry. And if you were working tonight we are more grateful than words can express. I am in tears as I write this. It may be a while before we're back just due to our own social anxiety, but I can't speak highly enough of the staff that made us feel valued and human tonight when we needed that kindness the...
Read moreAs a Chicago area native imagine my excitement to see a Bakers Square restaurant. Oh the memories of that delicious Oreo Pie. So excited yet so disappointed when discovering that Oreo Pie doesn’t exist any more (since apparently COVID). I imagine some corporate office person determined that we don’t sell as much of this pie as we do this one so we will just cut out this pie and this pie and this one too. The other pie options were well “pie you can get just about anywhere else” so no appeal and no reason to make a special trip to Bakers Square. So therefore no pie was purchased. Luckily the Stir Fry Pita is still on the menu (for now). So not totally disappointed. The service was top notch and incredibly fast. I was in and out in 30 minutes. Jessica was friendly, accurate, and fast with the order and the restaurant was clean. While doubtful that anyone will make changes to the pie selection I will pass on this thought. Yes some pies are gonna sell better than others but the sole reason I came to Bakers Square was because of the memories of the pies and yes my favorite type of pie. Everyone has their favorites and yes corporate has discontinued many other peoples favorites to cut costs. Some will be satisfied with the dismal selection today and many more will just quietly go away. There are many reasons why Bakers Squares are vanishing from the landscape. But control what you can control and that’s giving people a specific unique reason to frequent your restaurants again. Once the memories are gone they are well gone. I would suggest you re-evaluate...
Read moreI ordered a carrot cake over the telephone for pickup for a dinner party. It was ready when I arrived . When w I got to the party and served the cake, there were 4 of us, it wasn't what we expected for a carrot cake. The cake was 4 layers, however, the layers of frosting were almost twice that of the cake. There were little or no walnuts and the frosting was nothing like cream cheese flavor. None of us could eat it. When I called the store to let them know my disappointment, the manager and general manager stated that I needed to post a negative review for upper management to respond. Since this was a $63 cake, I expected so much more from the cake and store management. A partial refund, a gift card for something else, anything but "post a review". The manager shared that they have a new vendor, so their products have changed from past items. Perhaps that should have been shared at the time if .y ordering and this could have all been eliminated. Poor form...
