Wow. The manager needs management training.
On arrival, the manager was on the phone talking to somebody, and completely ignored us. We were just going to sit at the bar, but we weren't sure if we needed to check in at the front first. Eventually another lady walked in and walked straight to the bar, so we decided to do the same.
At this point, the manager jumps off the phone and starts yelling at us to come back over because now she can talk to us.
Shortly after we sit at the bar and order appetizers and drinks, five corporate lunch parties come in and are seated.
There are exactly three employees on shift. The cook, the bartender/server, and the manager.
After sitting there for over an hour, we got one drink. Appetizers never came out. We never got the opportunity to order any second drinks.
Clearly, the server was working hard. At one point however, we had the opportunity to ask him what was going on. At this point he mentioned there were five corporate parties at this time. We then asked if they knew about these corporate parties ahead of time, and the answer was yes.
Now, I understand that sometimes somebody doesn't show up for their shift. So maybe they were understaffed for a reason they couldn't control.
But, what they could control with how the manager behaved.
We eventually decided we were just going to pay our tab and leave. It wasn't worth waiting for the food that never came anymore. We spent half an hour trying to flag somebody down to just pay the tap.
The manager went out of her way our to avoid us, refuse to make eye contact, and just kept doing whatever she was doing.
At one point, my wife walked over right and told her that we would like to pay our tab. And if they can't simply provide our bill, we were going to just leave a $20 on the table and walk out.
The manager's response was, " whatever"
At this point she was angry enough that we told her to just go ahead and leave, and another person in our party would stay behind and pay the tab.
As she was walking out the door, the manager suddenly became unbusy and started yelling after her to come back. She clearly thought that she was walking out on her tab.
Things don't always go great. Sometimes things just plains suck. When those things are out of our control, patience intolerance are important. However, this manager's behavior was well within her control. And now, it is within our control to never...
Read moreI am so sadly disappointed after my visit. I was really excited that we were getting a new restaurant in Coppell but San Daniele fell very short. The place is beautifully decorated and the bar is beautiful. Upon walking up to the bar there was a lack of warmth and friendliness from the tender. Despite this, I sat down and struck up conversation. I was the only person at the bar at this point. The wines on tap were cool and I did enjoy my drink. As I became ready to order I made it clear that I wanted to have a leisurely meal and enjoy several dishes in stages. I specifically asked for my food to be brought out separately so I could enjoy each dish, hot and fresh. They brought out my goat cheese app, which was fantastic, 5 minutes later someone brought out all my other dishes before I could even dig fully into my app. I remarked that I didn't want them all at once and that my pasta would be cold before I could enjoy. Both the bartender and kitchen runner just ignored me. So I had to rush to try and enjoy each one and was not successful, Goat cheese became cold, pasta became cold, before I could fully enjoy. The Arugula salad is a nice idea but the huge hockey puck sized chunks of watermelon radish put me off, as the bartender watched me struggle to cut the chunks that were too large for a salad, I was never offered a steak knife. The salad which I was so excited about became inedible. The pasta was mush, had very little flavor and way too much Ricotta on top. During my visit it was very difficult to get the bartender's attention for refills, salt and pepper and my check, even though there was only a max of 3 at the bar at this point. The poor guy was waiting tables around the bar despite that fact that there were multiple "manager" looking employees standing around. Not sure why someone else didn't help with the tables so the bartender could focus on his patrons at the bar. My neighborhood friends warned me about going here but I decided to try it and make my own decision. They were not wrong. The service and food was not up to par. I am so sad because I love Italian and was looking forward to a new happy hour location. I am so so disappointed. To put all that work and money into a beautiful storefront but to not put the work into customer service and food quality is...
Read moreI ate dinner at San Daniele’s last night. It was my first time eating at this Italian restaurant, but I have seen it from the street and was always curious to try it.
My server’s name was Stephen and he was great. I started off with the meatball appetizer and the calamari. The meatballs were delicious. Stuffed inside was just the right amount of cheese. It was also served with buratta and focaccia bread. The calamari came with a good dipping size portion of marinara sauce, and a side of I believe ranch. I squeezed fresh lemon onto the calamari, dipped it into the marinara sauce, and it was delicious.
For entrée, I ordered the beef brisket Arrabiata pasta. But before that, I had their house salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Lots of greens came with the salad and the balsamic vinaigrette was very tasty. As for the beef brisket Arrabiata pasta, it was quite the dish. The pasta was stuffed with beef brisket and cheese. The pasta was covered in marinara sauce and hot honey which gave it that slight sweet flavor. The dish came with five pieces which were decently sized.
The restaurant does have a full bar that you can sit at and also they have a full size pizza oven, which is nice to look at. Outdoor seating is available.
Overall, I would say that I enjoyed my experience at San Daniel’s but I did have real concern. It was hard not to notice that some of the waiters and staff were yelling random things quite loudly while customers were trying to enjoy their dinner. And when I mean they were yelling, they were indeed yelling very loud. It actually was quite disturbing being a customer dining there trying to enjoy their food. I can only imagine family’s with children there, to witness such obnoxious behavior. If I was the owner of the restaurant, I would deal with this nuisance...
