Food was good. Service was probably one of the worst I've ever experienced. Me, my wife and 2 kids were looking for somewhere to eat after leaving monkey Joe's so maybe the apparel we were wearing weren't to our server's standards, I'm not sure what her deal was. When we sat down we were asked if we wanted any appetizers to start by our server, Vanessa, who, by the way, was training another server named Andrew. We said to give us a minute so we can look over the menu for this is our first time here. She said no problem take your time. My wife went to pick up the little menu that was on the table that looked like a alcohol menu when the server decided to come back and say "by the way I need that I'll give it right back"and watched her hand it to an older couple that was sitting behind us. They looked it over and ordered drinks off the menu. She then came back to our table and took our order. It was apparent she forgot to bring the menu back so my wife made it a point to stop her as she was about to walk past us again, and asked if she was ever going to return the drink menu? She said sure, and brought it to us. Keep in mind she had already taken our order. When we go to look at this drink book we realized there was a whole section of dinner specials of the day(June 2nd) that was never brought to our attention. I asked the server are these the specials for today? She said yes as of it was no big deal. Like why didn't you mention what was listed inside this little booklet when we first sat down? Instead you took the book out of my wife's hands and gave it to another table without ever explaining what was in the book. My wife proceeded to order some blueberry drink off the menu, as for me it was already too late to change my order to get the grouper that was on the special. I hate to say we were being judged by our appearance because we just left a kid place but that was the immediate reaction I felt afterwards. And they actually have this lady training someone else? I would definitely come back for the food but I will definitely make it clear I want anyone...
Read moreUpdate 6/2035. Sometimes I like to dine outside, even near start of summer, if not too hot. But it seems usually inexperienced Servers are stationed outside. Will not suffer through Michelle's "service" again. Even had to get up, walk inside, and ask for a fork to eat with. Joke! Update on 08/03/2020. When picking up Curbside I discovered the same ongoing problem (see this review; herein) in that the styrofoam Clamshell containers need a complete overhaul. I discovered it again today when I get to my home and discover the bottom of my Big Bear handle bag is sopping wet. Then I run out to my vehicle to clean the mess left there. I phoned the restaurant and the hostess (almost positive the hostesses answer the phones) screened my call by, first, asking back and seeming confused about my wanting to speak to a Manager. I asked, again, to speak to a manager and she "screened" with "may I ask what it is regarding?" I told her and she goes, "I'm sorry, can you say that again?” It is probably easier for me to write about the difficulty I continue to have with its ToGo containers here on Google as an update to my past review.
Update: 04/18/2019. 04/17/2019 visit only so-so and the door to outside Patio was broken and service slow and poor. Slow service again on 04/20/2019.
If I could suggest something it would be better ToGo packaging, a rehaul from top to bottom. On at least one occasion the meal I was taking home ToGo seeped out of its container (styrofoam I think it was), through the paper Handle Bag, and onto my car seat. Having said that, the clam chowder, "the Belt" salad, homemade salad dressings, Turkey Meatloaf with a side of Cranberry Sauce, petite Filet Mignon, Granola Greek Yogurt Parfait, and grits are all outstanding. Many, many more outstanding dishes and items. Julianna was very sweet and efficient behind the bar when I ordered a flavored Brunch Waffle that came out of the kitchen as a plain waffle. She sprung into action and brought me the flavored waffle. She had rung the item in correctly (flavored) so was not to blame...
Read moreRude and disrespectful management, won’t take constructive feedback, they don’t seem to care a bit about their customers. Very disappointing. I’ve been going to Big Bear since I’ve moved to the area in 1999, it was my go to place for good food and friendly staff, last time I was there with my family and guests I was disappointed with the food, one of our guests and myself ordered burgers I ordered mine medium and she ordered medium-well both came charred, we didn’t mention it thinking it’s one off, last weekend I went the eat at the bar I ordered salad and NY strip after finishing my salad they told me they ran out of steak and asked me to order something else, they should’ve known when I placed the order, the last straw was last night when I tried to place a “to go” order they told me they don’t take to go orders on the phone and I had to go to the restaurant to place my order, unhappy with it my first reaction was to write a bad review, then I told myself a bad review will have a bad effect, let me first write email to the manger on their website, there was no where in their website to give feedback, decided to go eat at the bar and speak in person to the manager to give him feedback about this new policy of no phone orders after 3 pm, the manger came to me with attitude, I spoke to him about the convenience to their customers to allow phone orders, his initial response was “this is how we want to run our business” when the customer sitting next to me jumped into the conversation airing his frustration with having to come in when all he wanted was to pick up food the manger walked away from talking to us. I was compelled to leave my order untouched and pay for my food and walk out and decided if they don’t care for their customers I will never dine there again - they lost me and my family 24...
