We Came for Ice Cream… and Left with the Mattress of Our Dreams!

So, plot twist: we rolled up to City Mattress last week thinking there might be ice cream involved (long story… maybe just wishful thinking?). Turns out, no sweet frozen treats—but we did leave today with something way cooler: a full luxury sleep setup that we actually feel great about.

Last week, we did a bit of mattress recon—tried out a few options, then literally decided to “sleep on it” (pun very much intended). Let’s be real, shopping for a high-end mattress when you’re exhausted from the workweek is not ideal. Especially when you’re looking at price tags in the $5k+ range before the extras like a box spring, adjustable base, and protection accessories.

But here's where the story gets good.

We went back today to pull the trigger, and it was a completely different experience from the typical high-pressure sales circus. No pushy tactics, no sleazy upsells. Just honest help from a team that clearly knew their stuff. Our sales rep—code name “Kevin” at the Coral Springs store—was fantastic. He asked thoughtful questions about how we sleep and what we were looking for (no easy task with two people and two sets of preferences), and nailed it with his suggestions.

We ended up going with:

A king-size adjustable frame (with the features we wanted, not the price we feared)

We are happy with our purchase, but there were problems along the way. Fortunately all issues were corrected by City Mattress in the end. We walked into the City Mattress showroom and we were greeted by a very knowledgeable and informative salesman who showed us many of our options. We decided on a new bed and arranged for delivery 2 days later. Selecting our new bed in the showroom was complicated because of the many options available. It was all made easy by the expert salesman. On the day of delivery, I saw an email asking me to call City Mattress about my delivery. I don't know why they didn't call me and just leave a message. Emailing seemed like an odd way to contact me for something like this. I called and it turned out my address was incorrect on their order. I gave them the right address and received a 2 hour delivery window. The set-up team arrived on time and proceeded to install our new bed. The installer asked me if I was keeping my old bedrail. I was not keeping it and had discussed this with my salesman how the new bed would hook to my existing headboard. The installer showed me that the order did not include the bracket that would be needed for my headboard. I called the delivery department and they could not bring the bracket to complete the job until the next day. I. The next day, I received a 2-hour delivery window that was missed. I talked to the delivery department again and was given another window. That window was also missed. I had to call again and was assured the driver would be here within one hour. Once the set-up team arrived, they installed the bracket quickly and finally completed my order. The process took a lot of follow-up on my part that ideally shouldn't have been necessary. For the past year I had been looking for a new mattress as I had been experiencing bad back pain every time I slept.
