Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Coralville

I love steak and shake and while in the area my mom and I decided to stop in and get some food, it was busy so we decided to go in and use the kiosk to see if there was a place to sit or if we wanted to take it to go, it was busy so we did decide to get our food to go. Kiosk was nice and fast and when it printed QR codes for our drinks it just said they needed to be scanned for us to get our fountain drinks. I handed them to my mom to figure out while I ran to the bathroom and when I came back out I was met by a gentleman asking “so are you ready then?” I was confused and my mom seemed upset so I said yes and he told me to get a cup and fill it. I guess what had happened was my mother asked the girl at the pick up counter how exactly to use the QR code and the girl said exactly what the kiosk did and that we just needed to scan it and get our drinks so my mom scanned it and grabbed her cup and threw away her code and thats when the same gentleman I was greeted with came up and started scolding her telling her if she wanted a refil she needed to keep the code she threw away so now he had to go get a new one and that if she didn’t know the correct way to use it she should have asked because you’re ACTUALLY suppose to grab your cup THEN scan it and fill it and if you need to fill it more he has to go all the way to get a new QR code so you better fill it all the way and when my mom told him she did ask how to use it he still continued to scold her and say she wasn’t doing it right. I understand having a busy Saturday and it was packed but we did exactly how the Kiosk and another worker said we needed to do it. I’m not sure why we needed to be met with clipped words and scolding, we can learn just like anybody else so if we are doing it wrong a nice comment and a helpful tone would have made the experience better (also side note no one was waiting in line for...

I go to this Steak 'n Shake pretty often. It is one of my favorite stops on road trips because there isn't one near my house.

Steak 'n Shake is a fast food place. If you walk in expecting to get something better than fast food you will be disappointed. But if you expect fast food you will find something pretty good for that echelon of dining.

The staples of their menu include burgers of varying sizes and ingredients, fries, hot dogs, and shakes, also with a wide variety of ingredients.

While some may be disappointed with the actual patty, as it is rather thin, I feel that the size makes for a better finish. It allows the patty to be both juicy and a little crispy at the same time. I also feel that it provides a good balance between the meat and the fixings. All the burger toppings are obviously fresh to the taste. AND (this is one of the bigger points for me) their buns are always toasted and never squished in the wrapper.

The fries are comparable to McDonald's in size but they are a little crisper and not so salty. I usually drizzle ketchup on top and eat them with a fork for minimum mess on my fingers.

Their hot dogs are a recent experience for me. They are a nice size, coming on a big enough bun with ketchup and mustard. It was good but for sure it was a hot dog and not something nicer like a brat or a sausage. I would say for a hot dog it was pretty good.

Steak 'n Shake's shakes are one of their major highlights. As they should be, I mean it is in their name. The shakes are made with real mix-ins and not just syrups like some places (*cough *cough Burger King). They also always look pretty, with a swirl of whipped cream, a dash of mix-in, and a cherry on top.

All in all I would recommend Steak 'n Shake as one of the better fast food...

If I could give negative stars for service I would went there last week with my fiance ordered each ordered a burger basket and a milkshake our food was done right away and I asked and told the girl I said hey we're waiting on milkshakes when I get a chance to get to him I'll get to him so I went and sat down with the food and we waited about 10 minutes my fiance goes up to ask her what about her milkshakes and she flipped out and started yelling at her my girlfriend said common came back I waited another 10 minutes and I went up and talked to the Cook but I asked him about her milkshake heels she's working on them right now I said well there's nobody at the milkshake machine where the only two people here today sir that's I got yelled at by the cook so I'll never go there again and this is the one on Elmore and Davenport shameful no paper towels in the toilet plunger still sitting in the toilet bowl trash on the floor it was just terrible shameful and I'll never go there again and I've been going there for years but it's been going downhill for months so that was our last visit ever there I would suggest no one ever go there ever again that'd be my suggestion it's dirty the bathroom was so dirty it made me wonder how clean the kitchen was I didn't want to eat there after that anyway. so I'll never go there again and I would recommend no one else ever go there again either.
