Tavern On the Bay — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

We ate lunch here on Labor Day, place was not busy at all. We had the Amberjack Sandwich and Snapper Tacos, and the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. Both entrees were just okay, the shrimp cocktail was good, how can you mess that one up? I think they may have served us the same fish for both meals, they taste exactly the same. The portions were just okay, very small portions on the fries and chips.

The waitstaff person we had (Michael) sucked and his continued excuse was "he had been out late the night before"! He overcharged on the bill and forgot to bring anything we asked, like napkins, silverware or cocktail sauce. First he brought ketchup for the fries, then we asked for cocktail sauce and he brought another bottle of ketchup. Then he went to get the cocktail sauce again and he brought guacamole, then he went back and brought the correct item. All took place in a very slow fashion...do ya hear me manager.

They were slow on Labor Day and we know why...servers like Michael. We had been there a couple times before, no issues. Bartenders seemed okay for the most part and we enjoyed the happy hour, they also had live music. Ambiance is good being on the water, everything is outside. They have a small shop in the building which has tchotchke stuff, we've purchased an item or two in the past.

I was pretty excited to eat here since they claim to be dog friendly. We took our family pets (shitzu and maltipoo) both small dogs today. They are not used to being out in public, since most restaurants here are not dog friendly. I am not going to lie, they have instances of barking and getting excited while we were there, not continuous. There were only few tables occupied and most of them tried to pet our dogs from afar, hence they get a little excited. We waited to be seated for 45 minutes and again probably another 30 to have our food. As soon as we got our food and started eating, the manager approached us that our dog has been acting aggressive and they’ve had 3 complaints and that she could pack our food for us so we can leave. I was shocked. They were barking playfully (probably some people got annoyed and we understand). But we were there for more than an hour, they could have refused service from the very beginning rather than have us wait just to be offered to pack up our food so we can leave with our dogs. It was my birthday celebration meal and was ruined like that. To have my family continue eating and enjoy their food, I left to our vehicle...

Came during the daytime to splurge on our mini-vacay. There was no wait, minimal folks, lots of empty seats, scenic views. Seating hostess was very sweet, patient, helpful, welcoming and accommodating; had a unique name. That's the ONLY thing we liked about this business. We were seated immediately but afterward, no one ever greeted or attended to us. At times I'd see a female and male server standing/looking around but never made eye contact with us. My bf overheard 2 Hispanic ladies next to us mention they waited an hour for chips and salsa. We waited over 20 minutes until we decided to leave. We honestly felt disrespected as we observed the female server pay attention only to certain people. My bf has worked in hospitality 10+ years and was appalled how neglectful the service was. Even the nearby hotel we stayed at was so underwhelming that we cancelled our next trip back to CC and will be staying at the beautiful, friendly and welcoming SOUTH...
