Came in for "date night" with a reservation, table was waiting. Nice lighting and atmosphere, tables spaced far apart. It appeared there was only one wait staff so service was a tad slow. We were seated right away and ordered the fries with truffle oil & parm and drinks - IPA for him & a cocktail for me to start. Took about 20+ minutes to get the fries, drinks came out just before. Fries were shoestring style, mostly very short and overly oily with only the slightest hint of truffle flavor. They tasted good, but the execution on these was lacking. I'll stick to the frites at the biere library. I ordered the filet mignon and he the gumbo. Again, the main dishes took longer than what I think is reasonable to arrive. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable with the wines and I ordered the suggested red to go with my steak. My steak was perfection, could cut it with a fork. It had a cabernet reduction sauce with it & crispy potatoes. Very rich, flavorful and all around delicious. The only thing I would change would be to add something else on the side to break the richness, like a rocket (arugula) salad with a lemon vinaigrette. The gumbo was alright, lacking in substance and served with the smallest bit of rice (like your large tablespoon at home size) in the bowl, and was a small portion for the price IMHO. My fiancée was happy overall but after tasting my steak agreed that he ordered wrong. I shared the rest of my steak so he wouldn't be hungry. I ordered another filet to drop off at my daughter's. We ordered dessert - him, the creme brulee and I got the panna cotta, took the chocolate cake to my daughter. The creme brulee was the winner in the dessert round. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and will be back. Side note: The staff could use a bit of "situational awareness" training to recognize when patrons are looking in their direction to get their attention. I finally gave up and went to the hostess station to place my to go order. Worth a try for a nice dinner out. Highly recommend the filet, the cocktails and the...
Read moreThis place is amazing. Apparently my first time it was there one month anniversary, and they gave my friends and I a free wine flight...each. That's a gold star right there! The restaurant/bar is so beautiful, and atmosphere relaxing and chill. The servers are so polite and knowledgeable, from their food menu to their wine. It is a perfect place to take a date. The food is delicious. They pride themselves being a farm to table restaurant, locally sourced as much as possible. Everything was so fresh tasting, I recommend their melon salad, beef tartare, and shrimp and grits (not a big fan of grits...but Castor's is delicious). Had we been there earlier, I think we would have tried everything (our server Evan, recommended his favorites, and they did not disappoint). From what I can tell, most of their food is French inspired. The price is comparable to that of the "finer" restaurants in Corvallis, though I would go far as to say their food menu and execution is a lot better at Castor. It's always great to see a new and different type of restaurant open up in Corvallis, especially one that isn't your typical college type bar/restaurant feel. It truly feels like I wasn't dining in Corvallis, but rather in a bigger city (like Portland). I really hope they do well. I know I will be coming back again....and again. Oh and their truffle oil Parmesan fries are to die for (sorry 101, but a new sheriff has come into town). They actually infuse olive in oil in REAL truffles, and not...
Read moreTook my partner here for a brunch date recently and ate outside. Our waitress forgot us on numerous occasions. She forgot our order and had to come back out (after we already waited quite a while) and told us she forgot what we ordered. She also didn't refill our water or check on us. Another man started running out food to us and waiting on us, filling our water. When our waitress returned she realized he was picking up her slack (weird interaction to see) but she still didn't really change her behavior. Still waited a long time for our check. I genuinely thought we were forgotten about. Are we allowed to dine and dash then?
Tried "The Veggie" po boy and something on it legitimately tasted like the gross acidic afterburn you get after throwing up.
I had the shrimp and crab po boy and was underwhelmed with the flavor and size of the dish.
Atmosphere was poor because sitting outside, another couples dog started barking like mad at another dog walking by. Our server forgetting about us, and a homeless woman crying on the street next to the outdoor seating and a man walking across the street screaming obscenities. I get you can't control them, but don't offer outdoor seating if you have a tough area to be in.
For how long we waited and the service we received and how disappointed we were in the food, it's going to be hard to come back. I've liked my other experience here but...
