An awesome Japanese restaurant hidden in Costa Mesa Went shopping at South Coast today and couldn't decide on lunch, so I remembered this sushi place I've had my eye on for a long time—it's right near the South Coast! It really didn't disappoint; I'd say it was amazing. We ordered: Salmon Blue Crab Roll This roll was absolutely incredible! The outside was thick, fresh salmon, and it was stuffed with sweet crab meat, creating an explosion of textures. With one bite, you get the rich flavor of salmon and the sweet freshness of crab meat. Highly recommended! Various Sushi We tried many types of sushi this time, including Bluefin Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Madai (Japanese Snapper), and Fresh Water Eel. Every single fish was incredibly fresh! Especially the Bluefin Tuna—it had a firm, melt-in-your-mouth texture that you could just tell was fresh. The Fresh Water Eel sushi was also fantastic; the eel was grilled to perfection and drizzled with a special sauce, making the flavor unbeatable. Chicken Karaage Classic Japanese fried chicken. The skin was super crispy, while the chicken inside was incredibly tender and juicy. Dipped in the sauce, it's the perfect bite, and the kids kept asking for more. Tako Yaki These little balls were so authentic. They were golden brown and crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside, with big chunks of octopus inside. Drizzled with takoyaki sauce and mayonnaise, and topped with bonito flakes, it was that familiar taste I love so much. Baked Green Mussel This dish was quite unique. The green mussels were topped with a thick layer of special sauce and baked until fragrant. The mussels themselves were very fresh, and combined with this creamy sauce, the flavor was very distinctive. A great try for those who love to experiment with new tastes. Seaweed Salad After all that fried food and sushi, the seaweed salad was a refreshing change. The seaweed strands were crispy, paired with a light sesame oil and vinegar dressing, which was very appetizing. Tonkotsu Ramen The ramen broth was especially rich; you could tell it was a long-simmered pork bone broth. It was warm and so comforting to drink. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and there was plenty of chashu pork—so satisfying. Overall, the ingredients at this restaurant are all super fresh, and the flavors are spot on. We got there right when they opened at 11:30, and the place was full in 10 minutes, with a line starting to form. Highly recommended! Restaurant Name: Eat's Sushi 1175 Baker St E25, Costa...
Read moreI stopped by 🍣 Eat’s Sushi for lunch before heading to South Coast Plaza with my two kids — spent a little over $30 per person, and honestly, for this area, the value is amazing! Especially given the quality.
🌿 Ambience: Classic Japanese vibe with plenty of booth seating, which made it super comfortable even with kids. They open at 11:30 AM — I’d recommend arriving early on weekends. By the time we finished eating, there was already a long line outside 🙈
🙋♀️ Service: Is it just me or are restaurants hiring super photogenic staff now? In any case, service was quick and attentive. Dishes came out fast and empty plates were cleared promptly. Overall a pleasant experience!
🍣 Food Highlights (Keto-friendly!): ‼️ I’m on a keto diet, and this place has tons of rice-free sushi options — absolutely perfect! • 🐟 Sashimi Combo One of the thickest cuts of sashimi I’ve had in a while! So fresh and generously portioned — huge kudos to the chef 👏 • 🫔 Mountain Hand Roll (No Rice) Keto-friendly sushi that you can actually bite into! The combo of fresh fish, avocado, and crispy seaweed was delicious and satisfying. • 🥑 Caterpillar Roll You can’t go wrong with eel and avocado. Soft, flavorful, and my kids loved it! • 🍣 Assorted Nigiri We tried salmon, yellowtail, red snapper, shrimp, and eel. Every piece was fresh, well-prepared, and perfectly balanced. The sushi rice had just the right amount of vinegar. Prices were reasonable too, so it’s great for mixing and matching. • 🧠 Ankimo (Monkfish Liver) Okay, I know it’s an acquired taste — but I love organ meats. The flavor and texture were amazing, especially paired with onions.

Read more💚 Seaweed Salad - In Hawaii, we call this wakame salad. So ono! Love the krab stick addition! 🍗 Chicken Karaage - The flavor is good, but would love the piece to be bigger like true karaage chicken. This is more like popcorn chicken. 🐙 Takoyaki - These are the perfect example of takoyaki, golden brown on the outside and piping hot custard like consistency and lovely tako piece inside. 🐟 Salmon Skin Roll - I call salmon skin, "bacon of the sea" and this roll highlights the crispy and fatty salmon skin in all it's glory! 🌶️ Spicy Scallop Roll - Served a little different than I'm used to, but has all of the flavors that I love like the masago mayo mixed with the sweet bay scallops. Yum! 🌶️ Spicy Tuna Roll - Served more tekka maki-style with the rice and nori inverted. Spice level was just spicy enough so you can taste the tuna. 🍣 Nigiri: Uni (sea urchin), ikura (salmon eggs), ame ebi (sweet shrimp with fried head), sake (salmon), toro (fatty tuna) - Uni was amazing! So fresh and creamy! Ikura was fresh and just popped with that briny, salmon flavor that I love. Ame ebi was sweet and love the fried head. It's like shrimp chips and my favorite part! Salmon was so soft and just melted in my mouth. Toro was like butter and melted in my mouth just like the tuna. So ono! 💚 Fresh wasabi - First time having fresh wasabi! I love it so much! 🐟 Sashimi Combo B: Bluefin tuna, yellowtail, salmon, albacore, octopus, and sunomono - The sashimi were thick cut and so fresh! Perfect with the fresh...
