We arrived and put in for a table for two and the wait was estimated to be 35 minutes. During that wait time, we went to the coffee bar in the front of house and we were able to get our coffee orders in no problem, but it took about 15+ minutes for two drinks. One 16oz Nitro cold brew and a 16oz latte. Its not much of a knock at them since it seemed like they were getting together mobile orders, but we were the only ones still waiting for our drinks inside as they prioritized the mobile/phone orders, so be prepared to wait a sec during peak hours.
Sweet potato beignets: At first glance, it was apparent they were a bit overcooked and on the dry side, possibly from being in the fryers too long. We each tried one, and the parts that didn't have glazing on them were almost bitter and unsweet. The glaze made them a bit better, but we ended up not eating on them after we tried them.
Cajun Praline Chicken and Waffles: I ordered the chicken and waffles and I have to say, the meal didn't disappoint. The chicken strips were the stars with being seasoned so well with a good fry and staying moist on the inside. The waffles were a bit dryer and less soft and spongy, but they turned out decent enough. The syrup was good, but it didn't stand out too much, just did a good job at bringing the meal together. They look like they advertise this plate more often online and I see why, very tasty.
Eggs Cochen: I was able to get some bites in on this dish including hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were chosen from a list of sides on the menu. First, the Eggs Cochen are poached eggs on top of pulled pork (not with bbq sauce), on top of a grilled buscuit (maybe buttermilk?) All topped with a cajun cream sauce (hollandaise sauce). I have to say, this was a delicious dish. The pulled pork wasn't cooked with bbq sauce like some pulled porks, so it gave a nice balance and heartiness that might've been overshadowed if prepared with bbq sauce. The eggs were prepared well and that cajun sauce brought a proper amount of seasoning and creaminess to the the dish.
*The hashbrowns were actually seasoned very well. It was just seasoned with straight salt and pepper I'm assuming, but some places don't preseason the hashbrowns, and we liked the level they put on it. It seemed like it was teetering on the side of almost too much, so just be aware to let your server know if you have an issue with too much salt. They were also crisped to our liking, a nice crunch on the top and bottom with a steamy inside.
Overall, it was a good experience, but we had some gripes. In retrospect, some of what we might not have liked were due to going at a busy time. I just wanted to include them so I can be accurate in how we felt at the time, but also give them the benefit of the doubt. We found that the coffee took longer than normal for two drinks (around the 15+ min area). Also, the nitro cold brew came out to with more milk than intended, but I could have specified the amount as well. We also didn't enjoy the the sweet potato halos (beignets) as they were hard and only slightly saved by the glaze provided.
However, they did shine in a certain areas: Our waitress Victoria (name from receipt), was very attentive, was knowledgeable on the menu, and was kind. In the event where we didn't enjoy our appetizer, she showed sympathy and offered to possibly redrop a different appetizer or to comp the appetizer. We were going to just not have them and thanked her anyways, but they graciously comped the appetizer when we recieved the check. Also, the manager at this time did come the table and explained the situation and apologized. She also noticed us on our way out after paying and apologized again, even though we had a decent experience. I just wanted to express that the great service didn't go unnoticed.
I would have given the experience a lesser grade if the people working weren't good at their jobs and the food was bad, but they were great and the main dishes were tasty, so I'd like to come back again and enjoy some more good coffee and even...
Read moreWe used to love this place and frequent it often. It is a place we take guests for breakfast and has always been towards the top of our list of breakfast spots. However, the past few times we have been in, the service has been terrible .Very SLOW. My husband and I ran a successful restaurant in the past and I can tell you that there's no reason to have to sit more than five minutes before someone asks if you want coffee. As I was eating my breakfast (which I have no complaints about the food, its the only reason I'm giving two stars) I noticed a thick layer of dust on all the menu boards, art work and the wall itself behind the main counter. Thick!! It hasn't been cleaned in a long time . When our waitress brought the ticket she left and didn't return for another five plus minutes so I went to the counter to pay. She didn't notice this nor did she notice us leaving (very slowly because my husband just had surgery and is on crutches so we weren't exactly "dashing out") As we were almost to our car, the waitress came out and accused us of not paying. She was not politely asking either, she was very rude. Other customers who were leaving at the same time remarked on her attitude and also stated that their service was terrible. If the waitress had been paying attention she would have noticed what had gone on. They weren't even full and they have sufficient staff to keep an eye on everyone. I was very offended to be accused of dining and dashing.
I'm done with Abita Roasting for a while.Hopefully they can get it together and return to what...
Read moreI grew up in the area, but this was my first visit to Abita Roasting Co. It was an okay experience, but I don’t think I would come back. The parking situation is frustrating to start, although understandable because they were definitely busy when we arrived. We were still seated almost immediately, and they gave the older children a fun activity. However, they did not have any high chairs available for the smallest children with us. The mothers had to hold them until some of the limited stock came available. Our server rushed us to order, coming back to the table 6 or 7 times in about 5 minutes. We kept asking for some time to look over the giant menu, but she was very pushy and not very friendly. This made it all the more annoying when our food took over an hour to come out, even after most the of the other tables had cleared out. The food was good overall though! Unfortunately, I misread the menu while I was rushed and missed that the shrimp and grits had bacon. I don’t eat meat so it was frustrating, but I ate around it. Everyone else enjoyed their food, and the cocktails were tasty! A fork was knocked onto the floor by a child, and a busboy walking by picked it up and handed it back to the kid (who promptly put it in her mouth before we could get it away from her) so maybe more training is in order. Our server checked back once our food came and then once again to drop off the check. I never did get a refill on my water after asking twice. Overall, not terrible but left frustrated and feeling like we should have gone elsewhere for...
