LESSON'S LEARNED! I went to eat at New Orleans Food & Spirits for lunch. Other than waitresses who don't smile, I usually don't have problems there. Ordered special of the day, Rabbit & White Beans cost about 9.95 & my grandson's lunch was 6.95 for a child plate. Early on got a really bad taste from the food. I normally don't complain but it was a really BAD taste!! SOOO BAD, I pushed the plate aside and had to drink alot to get the taste out of my mouth so I didn't ruin everyone elses lunch. Other family members ordered the same but lucky for them they didn't have any problems with theirs. My Mom told me I should let them know so I did. The waitress asked the manager if he could bring me something else; he agreed. She comes over and says that they would replace it, what did I want. I told her just give me shrimp and she said with fries/potato salad. I said with Fries, thinking I didn't want to ask for anything more expensive. When my bill came I noticed they charged me $18 for the lunch. I was shocked! So again, mom said I should tell them my concerns. So again, I did. I told them I didn't figure I'd be charged double for the replacement. The waitress again goes to the manager. He comes over and says there is nothing they could do because first of all Shrimp just went up. He said other's ordered rabbit and beans and no one else complained? Really, I felt as though he were calling me a liar at this point! I said yes well I would have thought since they were willing to replace the meal I ordered, they would give me something comperable to what was ordered in the first place, not something double. I didn't look at the menu to see the prices of everything again & the waitress took them all. Hell I could have ordered half a shrimp po-boy which you get potato salad or gumbo with and you can specify no bread. The point is I didn't think they were gonna give me something that cost double what I ordered in the first place so I didn't say anything. He told me it was my fault because I didn't specify that. He said I should have asked for a menu so I could have been sure to let the waitress know. Really! My grandson and I could have shared a place at fn 18.00 a plate. WOW! I know better! I will think three times over before I go back and eat in there again. I'm sure I will but I will def try to avoid it. I will take out so I can limit what I buy from that place. My total bill was $36 including an 18% tax. This occurred on the Westbank. Thru the years this place has become very expensive and the atmostphere is going down. I don't have money to throw away. I felt like I was put down completely...
Read moreWe’ve heard lots of good things about this place over the years and have not had the chance to experience it until today and to be honest I’m a little disappointed. So when we got there the hostess was very nice and seated us in an area we preferred. The atmosphere was great, I liked all the natural lighting from the large windows. Our waitress made a point to tell us she would be with us in a minute as soon as we sat down, which was great. After looking at the menu for awhile we put drink orders in, then appetizer, and eventually entries. The overall wait for ordering was reasonable. For our appetizer, we got the charbroiled oysters which was the best thing we got. Their oysters are comparable to Dragos Oyster's and possibly better than Dragos, though they come pretty close in my book. The entries we got were the crawfish pasta with crab cake and the stuffed shrimp cakes with shrimp Alfredo pasta (I forget the exact names). The crab cake and stuffed shrimp both tasted great, but the pasta was bland with no seasoning. I would personally never get their pasta again from this experience. I also had shrimp shell inside of both of my stuffed shrimp cakes (the entire tail was in both of them). The waitress offered to get me a replacement, but I declined because I did not want to have to wait awhile. Neither of us ate much of the pasta we had, but I did bring it home in hopes I could add some flavor to it and not waste all the money we spent today. We paid full price for the food, we were not offered a discount for the shells inside my food, but I also did not feel like making a big deal out of it so maybe they would have if I had. Overall the food experience was so so and the waitress was also ok, I do feel like she could of been a little more apologetic about the mistake at the end, but overall she was nice and didn’t make us wait very long. I was unsure if I should rate a 3 or 4 for my experience, but decided on a 4 because overall the experience was fine, but it definitely did not live...
Read moreWent to an early dinner with my family today. I’m celiac. I informed my waitress that I needed a gluten free plate as I have an allergy. She brought me the fish tacos, it looked delicious. Before I took a bite I noticed the tacos/tortillas looked like flour. I called the waitress over, she didn’t know if my plate was in fact GF (even though I informed her of an allergy) so she must have forgotten it was suppose to be gluten free. She went to ask and came back to say it was GF. I still didn’t believe and asked her again to double check so I wouldn’t get sick…. She said the chef checked the box and it was in fact corn. So, I ate the first taco… it was in fact flour. We later called the restaurant and spoke to a girl by the name of Lexi I believe, who confirmed they don’t offer corn or GF tortillas!!!! If you have any kind of allergy never EVER go to this restaurant. As locals we will never return and will be sure to pass along the message that NEW ORLEANS SEAFOOD AND SPIRITS doesn’t honor allergies and don’t enter without an epi-pen … lawsuit waiting to happen!!!!!! Paid a hefty price for the bill and a hefty price of being ill after leaving… absolute pathetic excuse for a food...
