I've been eating at Baan Thai for a long time and really didn't want to write a negative review because I have always loved it very much. The owner is wonderful and kind, and the food was always delicious, fresh and hot...but the quality and atmosphere of the restaurant has just gone down so much. Baan used to be located in a charming little building in downtown, a renovated old house made into a cute restaurant space. There was an amazing buffet with a wide selection of foods and the restaurant was always busy.
Unfortunately, Baan moved to a new location awhile back. The new space is considerably less charming, in a very plain strip building that seems otherwise unoccupied. Signage is so sparse I could not find the restaurant for months. When we finally did find it, we ordered to go for pickup, and the experience was very lacking, with food being less flavorful than it used to be and service very slow.
Recently I gave the new space another try for lunch and at 11:30, my companion and I were the only two people inside. It was completely empty. The buffet has been removed, and a lot of the foods that were on it are no longer on the menu. I am low carb/keto, so I wasn't able to build a fulfilling meal for myself without more options. The drink machine was broken, so there were limited drink options as well. While service we received was very good and I wish only good things for the people and business here, we both agreed that unfortunately it was probably our last trip here unless things improved considerably.
I am sure that Covid and other factors have influenced some of the deterioration, but I really hope the owner can seek some professional restaurant advice that can bring this beloved Covington gem back to its former glory. The food and atmosphere here was wonderful once, and it...
Read morePosting here because my review was removed from Facebook My friends and I used to be regulars at the lunch buffet. I LOVED all the food, always cleaned my plate, and always left MORE than a 20% tip on both buffet and takeout. The same server was always there getting our drinks. One day a few weeks ago, the curry was cold. Everything else on my plate was hot except for the curry, so I didn’t eat it. The server loudcapped me in front of the entire restaurant and said, “We are going to charge you for the food you didn’t eat.” I said, “I didn’t want to make a big deal of it, but I didn’t eat it because it was a little cold.” She proceeded to tell me there was NO WAY it could’ve been cold and that it must’ve been because it’s cold outside and I took too long to eat it (even though the rest of my food was hot). When I checked out, she continued to argue with me and tell me that I was lying. So I left and I wrote a similar review. TODAY my friend ate at the buffet by herself and was treated very poorly. After her meal she was told, “Please tell your friends they are no longer allowed here.” Keep in mind neither of these friends had anything to do with my situation, other than the fact that they happened to be with me. Baan Thai, this is NOT how you treat good-paying, regular customers. If you think I’m not going to continue posting reviews after you delete them, you’re sadly mistaken. You did this to yourself. Maybe you will think next time and treat customers...
Read moreWalked in to hostess station, no hostess. When the hostess came out there was no friendly greeting. Pointed us to a table that had rice particles on the table and appearedto have not been wiped down. We sat down and looked over the menu as this was our first time there. When I asked about a possible off menu item, ( which I have gotten at ever sushi restaurant ive ever been to ) a lettuce roll, I was simply told they don't do those without the hostess consulting with the sushi chef. When I asked what comes inside the cucumber roll I was told "what does the menu say?". All the menu said was cucumber and seaseme seeds. ( not sure how that is a roll????) The rolls IMHO are small for the prices. Three rolls were $35.00. I will say the rolls were delicious which will be the only positive thing about this experience. NOTE: I observed a gentleman walk in, ask if he could sit at a 4 or 6 top. Hostess told him no. Just in the area we were seated was us at one table and another gentleman at another table. I counted 25 open chairs at the point this guest walked in. The guest walked out. We ordered, ate, paid for our lunch and was leaving before the next family walked in. That guest surely could have been seated at whichever table and it would not have interfered...
