Cool spot. A lot of seating for talking if you need it and nice sized outdoor patio. So if you need privacy you should be able to find it somewhere on the premises.
The staff were numerous —which is a good thing, if they can afford it. Young and hipstery kind of flavor behind the counter. The problem was there was too much snark for serving the public but that’s Youngbloods for you. I can see how people might think this is humorous or makes you more relatable in some asinine kind of way but no. It just makes you unfriendly and pushes customers away. Who trains these people, sitcoms and Nickelodeon? Managers wake up and teach your people how to serve and not be served by your customers. Work on getting your customers to come back. Not drive them away with attitude that prevails around that “one side of your head shaved” hairstyle, dangly feather, dream-catcher earrings, tattoos that are generally pyramids and lines across your forearms, tiny shirts and tiny pants. Even then. Do all of that just be friendly to people. It’s not cute to be boorish. Your effect is quite the oppposite, my young friends.
I bought coffee for 3 people at 20$ this place is pretty pricey also. But...
Read moreI'd like to write a great review because this place is honestly a great spot. However, my personal encounter with the service here was bad. I ordered a regular drip coffee, and was told I was "lucky" because it was the last of the batch that had been "sitting all day". Okay... I'm not a coffee snob though so no problem. I went back for a refill and was told I couldn't get one because they were out. They gave the option of ordering an Americano. Got my Americano, finished it, went back and asked if I could have a refill of drip coffee instead. I was told no, they were still out of drip coffee and were not going to brew any more. I asked if I could get another Americano for a discount. I was told no, which is fair, but then staff smirked and sarcastically said "would you like a cup of hot water or something instead" To me this was entirely unprofessional and unnecessary. I also find it odd that a coffee place doesn't keep fresh coffee brewed and ready to go... anyway, cool place, but I don't understand why the staff feels they...
Read moreHaven is the haute new place in downtown Covington, but this business goes far beyond just vibes. The coffee is some of the best I’ve ever had, and I love that all the baristas are expertly trained on the science behind coffee & coffee-based drinks. I wanted to order a Macchiato, but the barista calmly explained that such wasn’t on their menu because foam is in fact scalded, denatured milk that takes away from the coffee experience. Because of that, I tried the cortado instead and was very pleased with my order. Perhaps the boy who’s mom was upset about to lack of macchiato should try blowing bubbles into her cup of warm milk… same result, no? I also love how open and welcoming Haven is. They have employees of all backgrounds and lifestyles, which is refreshing relative to the overall at times stuffy feel of the north shore. Oh, and don’t sleep on the food. I just tried their brunch...
