Fat Spoon Cafe — Restaurant in Covington

I love fat spoon Cafe in Mandeville and Hwy 21 but this was my first time at Hwy 190 location and trust me I won't be back! Service was horrible, wasn't acknowledge while waiting for seating and it was quite a few empty tables. Finally a young lady seats us then ask to take our drink orders. We ordered 1 coffee and two waters and she brings them right away and says the waitress will be with us in a moment. Wasn't given any silverware or spoon for coffee. We got the waitress attention after she seated another couple and bought them out some coffee with silverware to ask her for a spoon and/or silverware. She brings two stir straws and throws them on the table and ask if we are ready to order. My uncle said yes, before I could speak she says, I don't think she's ready I'll be right back and walked off. So we wait and we wait, my uncle walks outside to take a phone call in still waiting. The waitress seats a family of 4 takes their drink orders gives them silverware and brings drinks back to them and immediately started taking their food order. Ok so now about 15 minutes has passed since we been there and my uncle comes back inside to the table, still no silverware and waitress still never came back to table to take our order. So we get up to leave and as we walk to counter my uncle's gives the young lady money for coffee. The waitress runs to the front counter and tells us don't worry about paying for the coffee but we did anyway and walked out. Wasn't offered an apology, to speak with manager or anything. My uncle really needed to eat he is diabetic and had been traveling. I always recommend fat spoon to people because the food is awesome but I will never recommend them to eat at that...

First time going there. Waitress was exceptional. It was easy to see she liked her job.

I had a Bloody Mary which was pretty good after I added some lemon in it, and the more I drank the better it was.

Everyone else had either water or a soft drink. Jimmy has chicken fried chicken and he said it was very good. He definitely enjoyed every bit of it. Matt had fried fish of some sort which was ok, but nothing special. Elizabeth had a salad with chicken and ate it all, so it must've been good.

My choice was a nice serving of shrimp and grits which included 12 nice sized shrimp. Oh my goodness!!! It was absolutely delicious! I gave each at the table a taste and they all complimented the dish. My son was almost drooling for more and commented that he wished he had ordered it.

At some point my son, Matt, also said it was going on 2pm and that the restaurant was waiting on us to finish so they could close! Guess I should have looked at their hours. They were so nice to us, I want everyone to who wants a good restaurant to try the Fat Spoon on Hwy 190 in Covington!

On Sunday February 16th, me and my boyfriend decided we would eat at this establishment before I had to travel for the day. We arrived and sat ourselves as the sign says to, then waited about 7 minutes before someone even brought us our menus, during that time other customers had shown up and been given menus and asked what they wanted to drink. After finally getting our menus we waited another several minutes to tell them what we wanted to drink, and again, during that time other customers arrived and were helped faster than we were. It became so evident to us that we weren't going to be served when I went to the bathroom, and during that time several people had received their food and drinks while we were still waiting. Sat there almost 40 minutes with nothing to show but a coffee and a Dr.Pib. Will absolutely never be going there again and will be telling everyone we know the same as well.
