Guyer's Ice Cream and Doughnuts

In November of 2022, I was in Crystal River, Florida, and decided to check out a new business on 5th Street: Guyer’s Ice Cream and Doughnuts.

I loved it! The owners were working behind the counter and explained that they make all their ice cream in store - and that they have sugar-free and dairy-free options.

I wanted full-sugar, full-fat and full-cow-milk-dairy ice cream and asked for a bowl. I could have chosen a sugar cone, cake cone or a store-made waffle cone. But a bowl it was.

While I was contemplating the wonderful array of ice cream flavors and toppings, I watched as cake doughnuts were being made to order, right there!

As if there wasn't a nice enough selection of ice cream topping choices, you also get to choose the toppings for your doughnuts - and eat them while they’re hot!

So, I had a sundaes, but they also have milkshakes, malts, floats, craft sodas, coffee and snow cones. I'll be back!

P.S. I actually was so excited the night I first tried Guyer's that I wrote a long review - only to find that they were so new, there was nothing on Google! No map, no reviews, no way to post a review ... nothing.

I wish I'd saved that review so you could read about my experience at Guyer's while it was fresh in my mind.

Now (June 2025), needing to free up space on my phone, I came across the photos and decided that a review was overdue - and it'll let me delete the photos.

So, while this isn't my original happy review, and I haven't been back to Crystal River since about two weeks after I took these photos, I still have good memories of Guyer's and am happy to recommend it.

I had a my first visit to Guyers Ice Cream & Donut Shop in downown Crystal River. This lovely elevated building compliments the other buildings in town, which showcase the coastal & natural areas in our county.

They have a wonderful outdoor seating area providing the true feeling of being on vacation, even in the middle of the week.

As I entered the shop I was looking for a donut case, from which to make selections to take home. Surprise!!! They make your cake donuts to order. Then you get to choose your toppings!

While waiting for the donuts, I ordered some pistachio ice cream in a waffle bowl. I had the opportunity to meet Tom Guyer, the owner, who told me that all of their ice creams are made by his wife & himself. Wow!!! It was the creamiest, nuttiest pistachio ice cream I have ever eaten.

TLDR is GET ICE CREAM HERE! You can probably tell by my waist size that I’ve eaten more ice cream than I care to admit but Guyer’s has to be among the best! It’s SUPER thick, creamy, flavorful, sweet… just amazing! I don’t know what kind of alchemy or magic they’re using but it even seems to melt slower than normal ice cream. My first trip I got 1 scoop of Blueberry Cheesecake and 1 Strawberry (fruit right… I can at least pretend that it’s healthier than chocolate)! My 2nd trip (yes it was like 18 hours later… don’t judge me;) I got 1 scoop of Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup (PB = protein so healthy) and 1 Manatee Kisses… all incredible! I haven’t had their donuts yet but I hear they’re equally amazing! They also have dairy free and no sugar added options and snow cones! There are only a few tables inside but it’s Florida so there’s plenty of seating out on their elevated deck! Not the cheapest but worth every penny and calorie! Definitely a...
