Great food and atmosphere with a miserable server. I basically paid to deal with someone who obviously hated me.
From the start my server even though seeing that it was my first visit awkwardly waiting to be seated "allowed" me to find a table with no suggestion or guidance. Awkward, but not why the service was abysmal.
After finding a table, she got somebody to turn on the hockey game i was interested in, and service began. I had gotten a table for two as I expected my boyfriend to arrive not as late as he had and ordered a cocktail that was fantastic actually and cheese curds, which were unique and delicious. The issues began after this.
I suppose because I was expecting another, she became neglectful of my table. Only asking if I wanted another cocktail before I was ready to order, she did not look at my table for the next 15-20 minutes. I had to ask her as she attempted to walk past my table once more without looking to order my entrée which was a tasteful raspberry habenero set of wings. Maybe the public disconnect frustrated her to which she decided to end on crude terms or why she thought it was funny to interrupt me drinking so that I would choke trying to converse with her.
After finally putting in my order, service continued, and my boyfriend joined me. After that, he decided to order an appetizer I was eying, which was also good (the deep fried pickles). As a past server I was frustrated with the neglect from prior but understood she's here to work and that I could look past it and still decided to tip 20%. One issue though is that she did not concern herself to inquire if the check was to be split.
The finale of it is what proved that I had paid to be berated. After tipping a more than reasonable amount (digital payments by the way), she decided to return from the kitchen and call me a man in front of everyone without even looking at me. Normally, this wouldnt bother me as my whole life, I've dealt with this growing up in poverty, unable to treat my medical disorder from birth. But the way she decided to end the night was childish and more than unprofessional. Am I to carry my bloodwork around with me to show that I'm just a medically defunct person, or do you think people who act like this would ever waver at the truth that I am female? As said before, I'm accustomed to people behaving like this and understand that maybe she has ptsd like many women I've met who do this, which i more than understand.
That's it. It's a fantastic spot with great food, drink, and a southern feel that reminded me of my youth in Texas. I paid $30 dollars that night and regret a single penny I gave her. It's not that I wouldn't return, it's just I don't have time to deal with adult children such...
Read moreSHOCK AND AWE on Easter!!!!
Two weeks ahead of Easter Sunday, I phoned Joe's K Ranch, to see if they were open on Easter and, if so, to make a reservation for 10 people (9 adults and 1 child).
Did the employee who answered the phone mention that it was BUFFET ONLY on Easter? No. Did that employee mention the buffet's price? No. (Both are very important and should have been spelled-out.)
Twice in the run-up to Easter, an employee of Joe's K Ranch phoned me to confirm the reservation. Was BUFFET ONLY mentioned during either phone call? No.
When we arrived on Easter Sunday Sunday, was there signage or any other indication of BUFFET ONLY? No. Only when we were seated and did not get menus did that become obvious. Then, it was too late.
Would I have made the reservation knowing that it was BUFFET ONLY? Absolutely not! Rarely is a restaurant's food at its best with a buffet. Very rarely. And this was NOT one of those rare occasions.
The variety of buffet items was not extensive. Food preparation was far from special.
That said, if the price per person were in the $20-$25 range, I'd have shrugged it off with "Live and learn." But here's where the SHOCK AND AWE came in: $42 per person! Yes, you read that correctly. $42 per person! That may be the going rate and justifiable at an elegant, renowned supper club, but Joe's K Ranch is NOT elegant, NOT renowned, NOT a supper club.
Our food-only bill came to $378. And then, to "add insult to injury" as the old saying goes, there was an automatic 20% gratuity Which came to $78.60. The server did not take our orders, nor did she bring our food. All she did was bring two pitchers of water, a couple baskets of bread products . . . and the check.
The final bill, with tax, came to $496.75, just a few cents shy of $50 per person . . ....

We have been driving in from Grafton at least once or twice a month, especially for their prime rib and Saturday filet special. Two weeks ago I drove in for lunch and my prime rib was definitely left over from the night before. I should have said something to the waitress, but I let it go and wrote it off as just a one time issue. Today my Sister-in-Law and her husband from Racine met us for lunch. We arrived about 11:30 A.M. The waitress was terrific, but my 14 oz prime rib was definitely another left over from the evening before. Very tough and not medium rare. The baked potatoes were also re-heated. Again, I should have said something, but did not, that is why I have given them a three star instead of a two star rating. My wife's and sister-in laws filet were done just right so I will give them credit for their filets being done correctly. We use to dine at the Packing House two or three times a month, but between their new covid hours and high prices we switched to Joe;s K Ranch. After today I am not sure we will return again. Although the Packing house is more expensive, they are consistent with the quality of their menu. I am not even sure the K ranch owners read their reviews so I plan on repeating my concerns on their Facebook page. At 78 years old, and a 30 minute drive, a $60 plus dollar bill for two with out the tip was not worth it. Again, I want to re-empathize our server was terrific, and I take some of the responsibility for not...
