Short version: The BAD = parking, seating, coffee, prices, no phone to reach them The GOOD = location, food quality, variety of menu options, in-person service, originality, packaging
Long version: SEATING: Get it to go! Seating is so limited that I have to believe they desperately do NOT want you to actually stay and enjoy your donuts fresh off the line. And of course they do have a table that could seat 8 and it's usually blocked by two inconsiderate middle aged women with one single baby. I saw a mother with 4 small children have to stand while her children ate because of those inconsiderate patrons, and someone like them is usually there squatting the big table and having a leisurely chat.
VALUE: Prices are super high but the quality is far better than your typical DD type place. The coffee here is subpar and I have had it several times and as of early 2018 unless they change it soon, I recommend saving your money or going an exit up 400 to the Rendezvous Cafe.
SELECTION: The best donut you're gonna get there will depend on your taste buds, they have something for everyone. My wife loves the Nutella donut and I'm a fan of the bacon maple twist, which is like some bacon and a syrupy pancake had a buttery baby. They have lots of different flavors and what's great is how their donuts aren't too "heavy" when you eat them.
PARKING/SERVICE: Parking is extremely limited so that can be an inconvenience. Also, good luck if you need to call them! Their permanent number directs you to leave them a Facebook message! That is awful. They do have a very friendly and helpful staff, once you're in front of them, but you won't reach...
Read moreI returned from NYC recently where I visited the popular Doughnut Plant. Although they were pretty creative with their doughnut flavors, their taste and freshness didn't meet my high expectations. Dutch Monkey Doughnuts are a cut above DP's in terms of freshness and taste. The only negative with Dutch Monkey, in my opinion, is value. They are on the expensive side but I'm willing to pay more for the taste bud explosion I get each time I bite into one of their Doughnuts. My top 3 are as follows: 1) Chocolate Iced Creamstick (it's basically what most would consider an Eclair; however, the filling is white icing as opposed to the custard) 2) The Boston Cream (has the vanilla custard in the middle. They use real, and fresh, vanilla). Finally, # 3) the Coffee Cake d'nut. This one is a "special" so they don't make it that often. The best way to get it is to email them 2 days in advance and they will include it in their daily specials. In summary, you can get my first 2 recommendations on a daily basis but, as I said, the Coffee Cake should be requested in advance. The last and biggest thing I want to mention is the following: Microwave their doughnuts for 15 to 17 seconds but do it 1 at a time. I've found this is the best way to enjoy...
Read moreI was impressed that this place was given a almost 5 star review and how everyone was saying the best doughnut ever , so I decided to try them out.I stopped by 8:30am and I bought 6 doughnuts and it was around $17. A bit pricey but hey if itâs the best doughnut I do not mind paying. In my opinion I took a bite and it was âokayâ. The one I did try that I thought was a little better was the Nutella twist. I also noticed especially the fritter tasted a bit stale. I am not kidding it didnât taste fresh and I tried to heat it up thinking it would change my mind about it , but again it tasted like how if you were to leave a doughnut sitting out for 3/4 days. I would like to come back again and try different doughnuts but I canât say for sure considering all the ones I did buy wasn't enough for me to want to come back. I wanted to leave a review here only to let people know that the hype isnât real! I bought 6 donuts and ate one whole one and the rest of them I took a bite or two and put it down I was a bit disappointed every-time I took a bite. So I kinda wasted my money. I would say to come in and try ONE first before deciding to get more. The two employees that were there was nice and the atmosphere was clean...
