Today we went to a Guangzhou restaurant inside Cupertino Plaza – Bao Zai Zheng! My mom ordered the Claypot Rice with Mushrooms and Chicken, Paul had the Claypot Rice with Beef and Egg, and I chose the Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausage. It really reminded me of the taste of claypot rice I used to have in Hong Kong when I was a kid.

Normally, my mom eats very little for dinner – usually half and then takes the rest home. But today, she finished everything! She said, “This is truly the taste of Hong Kong on the tip of my tongue.”

I can’t believe I was so focused on eating my own dish that I didn’t even take photos of my mom’s and my husband’s claypot! Is that really me?

Their Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Wings and Sizzling Cauliflower Claypot were also excellent. We also had the sugarcane, imperatae root, and water chestnut drink, which was sweet but not heavy. And finally, my husband ended the meal with Double-Skim Milk Pudding. I personally can’t have dairy products, but he said it...

TLDR; TASTES LIKE AIRPLANE FOOD

I was really excited to try BZZ Claypot since it opened recently, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing.

We ordered the cauliflower, xiaolongbao, and the signature claypot rice. The cauliflower was covered in a heavy, premade gravy/sauce that was so overpowering I had to rinse it off before eating. The xiaolongbao didn’t taste fresh at all — the filling seemed frozen and premade with so much starch. I had to soak it in vinegar just to make it more edible.

The claypot rice portion was small, and the Chinese cured sausage and cured pork tasted like cardboard. The rice itself had the bland, reheated quality of airplane food. For a place that specializes in claypot dishes, this was really underwhelming.

Overall, the food felt mass-produced and lacked authenticity. I hope they improve, but I won’t be returning...

Love it !!! Ever since Wonton House in El Camino Real closed down, I was craving for clay pot. This canton style clay pot didn’t let me down. Really authentic — clay pot with crispy bottom!!! Woo Love it. If you are a Cantonese, crispy bottom for claypot is really important. Pour over some tea or soup over it to make it perfect.

I ordered Chinese Sausage clay pot and salted fish with eggplant. It was pretty yummy. My son couldn’t stand the smell of salted fish because he is a ABC, but I love it. The soup with Morchella is delicious too.

The price is reasonable, around $13 -15 per pot. I ate pho at little Saigon, each dish costed...
