I will start by saying the food is amazing, however, today was the third time I've visited this place by myself and the service is actually terrible. I waited tables for a really long time and I generally tip more than 20% because of how hard waiters work and how terrible they can be treated, however, today was the first time I've truly been disappointed. If I had had only one poor occasion (clearly two), I wouldn't be writing this, but after 3 times now, I felt like I needed to write a review because the service is just that poor.
Today I ordered and after at least 5 minutes of waiting, my server still hadn't brought my drink - I ordered a pineapple ice tea and a water - so I finally asked the host/manager and he went and had the server get my drink. When she brought the ice tea, I asked again if she could bring water and she said of course. It never came. I would have asked a third time, except she never came back.
I also ordered an appetizer (summer rolls) and specifically asked to have them come out first, but they didn't end up coming out until after my meal (funny enough, the last time, I asked for the same thing, but they actually never came, presumably because they forgot to put in the order?).
It was a different person who brought out my meal and I didn't get a chance to ask them for water, but I thought surely my server would come back and ask if I needed anything. It wasn't until after I finished my meal, a different server came and asked me if I needed anything, but at that point it was too late, so I just asked for my bill.
The food really is amazing, but the service is consistently poor, so please keep that in mind...
Read moreRead moreDined here on Friday evening with 2 colleagues. We didn’t have a reservation and got on the waitlist at 6:45pm. It wasn’t too hard to get a table, about 20 mins of waiting which is almost nothing compared to some of the other restaurants in Main St. The menu has quite a few options from starters to salads to curries, rice and noodles. My colleagues liked the Calamari, and the Nam Phrik Num starter was a very passable dish, an assortment of raw veggies (as opposed to steamed and raw veggies mentioned in the menu), with some chili sauce which tasted like crushed jalapeños in vinegar. All beers, draft/craft/bottle are at least $8 a pint, which is a bit too much probably even for Main St. $8 for a 12oz bottle of Singha!?! The main course included Gang Panaeng curry with chicken which my colleagues enjoyed a lot. The rice needs to be ordered separately which felt odd with the curry already priced at $17. The Pad See U (veggie+tofu) was good, but the fish/oyster sauce was quite overpowering and the dish a tad too salty for my liking. The portion sizes and ‘lunch’ size and certainly don’t justify the price. Every dish certainly tasted fresh though and the tofu was really good. Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. 2 starters, 2 entrees, rice, and 5 beers got the total to $120. Good experience overall but at $40 per person, there was no apparent reason to...
Coming into the doors of Pineapple Thai, I had a lingering sense of anticipation: the Cupertino exclusive had many positive reviews and appeared to serve a multitude of scrumptious meals. While this expectation was met, with the food both looking and tasting incredible, the shortcomings of the restaurant soon became glaringly apparent after but a few short minutes. To begin, the portions were small, almost to an extent that became completely unreasonable with the Cupertino pricing, with many dishes being unsatisfactory for 1 person to solely consume. As a restaurant-goer with no gauge for portions at this particular location, I expected the minimum portion size for a 18 dollar dish to be for at least one person, and this basic expectation was one of the main reasons for the scowl on my face after I left the establishment. The most frustrating experience was receiving the bill. On our receipt, there were a plethora of pricing discrepancies and issues: the menus were wildly out of date, with items such as the cocktails costing almost 5 dollars (50%) more than the in person menu price. Every item had at least a dollar or two tacked onto the given menu price. While this was obviously not their intention, this almost deceptive practice left a lingering bitter taste in my mouth, something that the strong flavor of their iced coffee could not even...
