The food is good but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. This is the second time we have been here, the first time we came for more than just the donuts. We were taken and seated at the very back for he restaurant by Lauren. Our visit started off great, she was super friendly and fun. Until it came time to pay for our meal. We weren’t aware that we had to pay at the back of the restaurant so when she dropped off our check and boxes we gathered our things and headed to the front so we could grab some treats from the bakery cases as well before we left. That’s when Lauren became incredibly rude. In so few words she tried to accuse us of leaving without paying, saying we had to pay back there because they couldn’t ring up our check up front. My mom’s boyfriend tried to explain that we didn’t know that and we were going to buy some treats up front before we left (insinuating we thought they’d all go on one bill) and she was rude and hostile and made a small scene in front of the other patrons. So he paid for the bill in the back and then we headed up front. I didn’t catch the name of the woman working up front but she was the hostess today (6/11) and had a very Karen haircut. We told her what we wanted out of the case and she shoved everything into one bag, which is fine as long as you separate the pastries with the tissue paper. We had each gotten different flavored donuts and they were just a melted mess inside the bag, the frostings from each one all now combined. When I went to pay for them she didn’t say a single word to me or tell me my total, just said “you’re ready” when the card machine was ready for my card. She set a receipt down on the counter but didn’t tell me whether I had to sign it or if it was her copy, didn’t ask if I wanted my copy, didn’t tell me when the transaction was finished, didn’t say anything at all to me. They always talk about how friendly people in small towns are, that doesn’t apply here. Reading the reviews it seems customer service is always terrible here, perhaps consider working on your social skills if you’re going to be working with the public.
ETA: We were eating the last of the donuts that we purchased before we left and found this lovely gem inside. (Picture attached) It’s part of a metal scrubby or metal brush...
Read moreOur family of seven (4 generations) from Texas had breakfast at Baker’s Bakery while staying at Custer visiting the Black Hills area. I had been to Baker’s Bakery 5 years ago and did not realize how big their restaurant was. I had already told some family members we would have to split up because of the small seating area. Much to our surprise the restaurant just keeps going further and further back where they can accommodate larger parties! Do not let the hostess deter you from this restaurant (I never saw her smile the whole time we were there on two different days and watched her seat several tables..the 1st day I thought maybe just a bad morning but she was just as RUDE the 2nd day we went). Their breakfast was the best breakfast we had on our week long vacation, hence the reason we went back our last morning in Custer despite the RUDE hostess! We had pastry items from the bakery that were all so yummy!! We also ordered the Classic, the Breakfast Tacos, the Denver Scramble and the Smothered Breakfast Burrito. The burrito alone could feed 2 or 3 people, it was huge!! The green chili sauce they use is Delish!!! The coffee was also very good!! Both servers we had were very friendly and food delivery was very fast! I just wished the hostess would have been more friendly and would have gladly...
Read moreThis is one of the few times I'll write a review for a place that I didn't even get to try. As many others have said on here, the attitude we got from the waitress was UNREAL! Two of us walked in and asked how long a to-go order would take. One of the waiters was very polite and told us it would take no time at all. All of the sudden, another server interrupts and tells her she's wrong and then motions us to walk over to the counter and points to this hand written sign by the cash register that says something to the effect of "expect wait times of up to 25 minutes on to go orders when we are at capacity". She continues to sarcastically point at it and tells us to read the sign and that if we get it sooner than 25 mins, consider ourselves lucky. She probably needed a refresher on the sign herself as the place was nowhere near capacity so it didn't even apply. She then walked off and started helping others. We still wanted to try a cinnamon roll and we stood at the dessert counter staring at her for multiple minutes. When she never spoke to us again, we walked out and later told our party of 8 to nix our breakfast plans there the following...
