Basic lodging. Nothing fancy. Functional. Conveniently located if you are going to Mt Rushmore. Rooms are a bit dated but decent enough. It’s two stories and has NO elevator, so be forewarned if you have issues with stairs and have a second floor room. There is a mini refrigerator in the room which is a plus. I liked that the bathroom sink was outside the commode/shower area because hubby could shave while I was showering then I could do my hair etc while he showered. It saved us time when we were on a tight schedule. The TV is flat screen but quite small. A good variety of channels though! If you want ice and you are on the second floor, you’ve got to go downstairs to get it. There was a charging outlet on the nightstand between the beds with enough ports to charge multiple devices, which was handy. AC was cold but the controls were hard to access unless you stand up on the bed to change settings because the AC unit is mounted on the wall close to the ceiling. Breakfast is a “grab n go bag” with cereal, granola bar, muffin and piece of fruit. That’s included. There is a small guest laundry available. There are multiple eateries in the area, but some are take- out only or drive through only. Try not to get a room facing the back street near the restaurant, the Beacon, if it’s a Friday or Saturday night…. There is a house next to it, and between the restaurant patrons and the drunk kids and noisy eatery, there was quite the hullabaloo outside until the wee hours on the Saturday night we were there… banging, yelling, just general insensitive and unnecessary ruckus preventing travelers from getting a decent night’s sleep…..keep AC on or white noise on your phone to drown...
Read moreOur room was clean and spacious. We weren't there much other than to sleep and shower. The bathroom door did have a sign that said you had to keep the door closed if showering because it would set off the fire alarm. They do have an indoor pool (we didn't use due to lack of time), but it looked to be on the smaller side. Nothing wrong with that when it's not busy. We used the back door by the pool since it was closer to our room which was on the 2nd floor. The door sticks really bad from the inside if you're trying to get out. I pretty much had to slam my body into the door to open it. I don't mind being on the 2nd floor, but really don't enjoy dragging my suitcase up the stairs after 8 hours of driving when I just want to sleep. They do NOT have an elevator. If you are handicap or have trouble with stairs, make sure to let them know that you will need a room on 1st floor. They didn't have breakfast, only coffee. But they had a breakfast area. I'm not sure if that's a COVID thing or not. Most of the places we've stayed have had something, even if it isn't their normal breakfast. The location was great! Not too far from Mount Rushmore, and SUPER close to Custer State Park (**MAKE SURE TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT IF YOU STAY HERE). It's right in town off the main street. There's a small parking lot, but there was parking on the side of the building and...
Read moreGreat location, walkable distance to everything. General interior and exterior of the property seemed clean. No elevators. Can't enter the side doors, only exit. Room decor was cute for the area, lodge themed. Sheets and sink were clean but the shower had hair everywhere and the hot tub as well. I tested the jacuzzi before I got in but all sorts of little black dots came out so I opted out. Carpets need vacuumed bad, I had to wear shoes the whole time. Didn't hear any neighbors, seems to have pretty good sound proofing between rooms. Breakfast was bare bones and cheap mini muffins/Danish and breads but wasn't expecting much for continental so plan to grab breakfast elsewhere. I put a do not disturb sign up on the door but still received a knock at 9am and then again at 10:30am letting us know 11am was check out. What's the point of the sign then? Front desk at check in was quite short and unhelpful with me initially but was fine later in the night, no one there at check out time. Parking in the front is limited and tight for larger vehicles but there is additional side and rear parking (no clear signage if you're coming in late at night though). It worked for a one night stay but I would choose elsewhere in...
