After hearing about Horatio’s from several locals, including Barb at Jewel Cave National Monument, we made sure to stop at Horatio’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Before diving into the ice cream itself, there are a few things worth mentioning.
First, I loved that they only offer a limited selection of flavors at a time, displayed on the wall. It creates a fun, unique experience with every visit and encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, rather than sticking to your usual go-to flavors.
Second, the atmosphere while waiting in line was fantastic. The staff at the counter were friendly, efficient, and clearly passionate about what they do, which made the visit even more enjoyable.
Now, onto the ice cream…
Confident it would be great, I ordered the “Flight,” which includes four scoops. My picks were: Watermelon Italian Ice Key Lime Pie Milk Chocolate M&M Chocolate
For the record, since the staff assumed my brother and I were sharing, I can assure you we each completed our own flights.
The ice cream at Horatio’s is outstanding. Every single flavor was excellent, the texture, richness, and quality truly stood out. Honestly, if it hadn’t been that good, I wouldn’t have been able to finish all four scoops. But I had no problem finishing them here.
As for the price, $10 for four scoops feels more than fair considering the exceptional quality.
I’m not sure when I’ll find myself back in Custer, but when I do, I’ll definitely be stopping at Horatio’s again, ready to try four...
Read moreSo we were recommended this place by a close friend so we were excited to try! But There was a skinny older blonde lady working. I greeted when I walked in but didn't get much of a greeting back. I looked at the menu and asked for a sample of the amaretto crunch. She said "we don't do samples" I said "ok, what do recommend between the maple walnut and amaretto crunch?" She had no helpful response at all and was uninterested in helping me decide or even describe the flavor to help me a customer understand her product. No smile. She severely underserved my 2 scoop cone. in comparison, my white boyfriend ordered one scoop and it was a well served scoop all the way to the bottom of the waffle cone. Regardless ice cream was good. The experience left a bitter taste in my mouth instead of a sweet one like it should have. When we initially walked in she was helping an older lady and was very kind and helpful, even wishing her a happy mother's day. The young man working was kind, smiled and was helpful. It's always disappointing getting treated differently than...
Read moreWe love supporting small, locally owned businesses but this is one that deserves a negative review. The ice cream was good but the couple taking orders were not the nicest. I’m going to assume it was the owners. We have 4 children, arrived at opening (1:30) and the lady taking our order was doing so VERY impatiently. As each child was trying to decide what flavor they wanted she very rudely said “and next?!” Obviously irritated with their decision making process.
There was one older gentleman behind us. ONE! Not a line out the door that we were holding up.
Then she ran our card and the chip malfunctioned. Tried running it manually and said it wasn’t accepted. Funny that we have used it numerous times a day in this area with no problems. She never offered to try to run it again but just handed it back to us and said it won’t run.
All of that to say is that there is no way we’d recommended or suggest anyone spending their hard earned money at a place that obviously is put out at you for wanting to...
