Came here with my family for the first time and left knowing that it will be our last time. I can understand the appeal and novelty of ordering food from a screen and having it being delivered from a conveyor belt BUT the food was definitely not worth the price.
We kept ordering more food hoping the next order would be better but alas it was not. Any nigiri we ordered was comparable to sushi you would find at your local grocery store. Not fresh, rice was falling apart and it definitely did not look like anything from the menu picture. Anything fried was definitely cooked in a cheap seed oil (even though Kura prides themselves on using quality products). The deep fried squid was oily and so chewy as if it was recently defrosted and tossed in the fryer. The service was hit and miss. Our main server seemed to be preoccupied with other things (the restaurant was empty with plenty of seating both at counter and table) and we had to remind her to bring us “wasabi”. I’m not even sure you can call that thing wasabi.. the wasabi packets you get when you order takeout sushi is better than what’s offered here. When it was time to pay, there was no lasting impression. She dropped off the checked, picked up my credit card and dropped off the final bill - that’s it, no smile or thank yous. Cleanliness was something to be desired. Our table looked like it was barely wiped down from the previous guests along with the ordering tablet.
For $78 + tip for two, we could’ve gone to an AYCE for better quality, quantity and service.
If you want a sushi train experience, I would highly suggest you look elsewhere because this chain and especially this location missed the mark on all things for a memorable...
Read moreCame here at 7pm on a Monday night (MLK Jr. Day). Parking in front is limited, but there is additional parking available on both sides of the building. I parked in front of 85° Bakery. There were 4 parties ahead of us, but we were surprisingly seated after waiting a minute. The waitress let us know that we weren't supposed to wait inside since it was a fire hazard. She didn't tell that to the 4 parties ahead of us who were all waiting inside before we got there, but okay. Lesson learned, don't go on a cold, windy night. Anyway, my little one and I were seated at a table. The waitress asked if it was our first time there because they show you how to order on the tablet and grab food from the conveyor belt. Service was friendly. They bring you your drinks, give refills, and give you the check. So no big expectations there. The food was good. It actually tasted fresh. I got the tonkatsu ramen, which was just okay. It was way too salty for me. I couldn't finish the small bowl for $6.70. The plates of sushi on the green plates were $2.60 each and 15 plates gets you a small prize from the machine connected to the tablet. I got the mochi for dessert, but it was so tiny and sweet for $3.60. I couldn't eat the mochi part and only ate the ice cream part. This place is bigger than the one at Brea mall and closer to where I live. Overall, I would be back. It's not a great place to go with large parties because the tables are very small and not very accommodating. I would say a party of 4 or less would be best if you all want to sit...

They have electronic sign in where you can check your place from your phone. Took about 30 minutes for 10th place in line. Wait outside, they don't allow you to wait inside. Also I sat near the door and it was an annoying rush of cold air everytime someone opened the door. People coming in please be considerate of this.
Immediately when I sat down, I noticed the table had just been wiped but it was left WET. So I took a couple napkins and wiped it dry myself. I shouldn't have to do that. They ask if it's your first time and will give you a short demo on how to grab the plates and dispose of them.
All the fish was fresh and the rice was good. They had some special plates like toro and sea urchin and were good as well. My absolute favorite was the Ishizawa Marinated Tuna. It had a nice acidity that contrasted well with the delicate tuna. There was also a salmon one. Lots more options available on the screen menu. And if you don't want to wait for the rotating sushi to come, just order off the screen. Sushi donut sounded fun but it was a let down.
They came to check if I wanted a refill on tea when my cup was half full only once, and did not bother coming back when my cup was empty.
Would love to come back again to try the ramen! They just need to focus a bit on...
