I encourage you to look elsewhere. I scheduled my daughters 6th birthday here and her party was cancelled on Thursday afternoon with her party supposed to have been Saturday morning. Apparently every member of staff except Melissa was aware of the party being for a child. Melissa doesn’t “do” children’s parties at The Bake Shoppe. Her intention when she called was clearly to cancel the party. I was informed I had misrepresented myself, I was a disgusting person, she can’t deal with ridiculous mothers like me, as well as a few other choice insults. I don’t know how that’s possible, I’ve spoken with multiple people at the shop in person and via email. Everything was totally fine on Wednesday afternoon when I spoke with someone on the phone. I can not attest to the reviews of the food here as I’ve never personally eaten here, I scheduled the party on the recommendation of my father in law who was eating there when a little girl had a tea party birthday party. He knew my daughter wanted the same thing and we were trying to figure out if we were going to do it at home or out somewhere. He sent me a couple of really adorable pictures of the little girls having a ball and said the food was really good. To the mothers of those children, Melissa thinks that they are all horrible, disgustingly behaved, and little brats. Your children were supposedly running all over her restaurant making the whole experience horrendous for her. She doesn’t do birthday parties because of your children. I wouldn’t go back to her shop if I were you. I would let every single person you know not to go there as well. I attempted to defend your children who she claimed were 3 and got called more names. Just turned 3 year old children are still babies learning appropriate social behavior and she had filled them with sugar. They were excited about the party to boot so I would expect them to be hopping about having a fun time. She claims customers were complaining. My father in law who is a stickler for appropriate behavior found no problems with your children’s behavior. He thought they were adorable and they clearly were having a fabulous time. I’m sorry she has degraded your children in such an awful way. If she’s said these awful things to me then you know she’s said them to others. She needs to be stopped. Her behavior on the phone was toxic and highly offensive. I’m so very sorry to every single employee who has to work with her on a daily basis. Don’t schedule parties here, you might unknowingly misrepresent yourself to Melissa who will subject you to a degrading and highly offensive phone call. Save yourself the stress of having to pull together your event with a day and a half notice. $150 to sit at her center decorated table, $100 for a cake, and she attempted to charge me $39 a child to decorate a cupcake and eat plus the cost of the food and drinks for the adults. Read moreSome of these reviews are simply ridiculous. I am a local and a proud regular of the Bake Shoppe and Cafe. For every one of the several bad reviews on this page, there are literally dozens of great reviews that don't get posted. You don't always hear the positive, but people sure are quick to post the negative. The Bake Shoppe is an incredible local restaurant with awesome food. Some regular favs... Sweet Connie's Salad, Chicken Salad (sandwich or salad), Chicken and Dumplings. Specials when they have 'em... Chicken and Sausage Creole, Red Beans and Rice (as good as any anywhere). If it's dessert you are looking for, well you can hardly go wrong with anything. They are famous for the giant Ding Dong and it even comes in a cake! Every meal comes with a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie (fantastic), the iced fudge brownies are unbelievable, pecan pie is fantastic, the list goes on and on.
Anybody can have a bad day folks. I feel bad for the people that had bad experiences, because it really doesn't reflect properly on the restaurant. That being said, this is a small local business run by normal folks. If you are looking for the 5 start dining experience where you are waited on hand an foot, go to a 5 star restaurant!
Food is excellent. Service is great, although they do get very busy, so expect some small delays in table service during peak times. But flag Toni down and she will serve you with a smile :-) As for self serve lemonade complaints... Hello? Really? I love getting my own drinks; I can fill up as often as I like. But tea is table served and they service it in huge glasses so refills for most normal folks are limited compared to the small glasses in other restaurants.
Ignore the bad feedback on this page and treat yourself to a Bake Shoppe experience!
I love this place. My wife and I eat here sometimes several times a week. If something isn't right, I tell 'em and they fix it (very uncommon). Good people, good food, casual atmosphere. Oh and as for the decor comments, come on people, give me a break. I don't decorate my home this way either but again, for everyone that seems to be really annoyed by it, there are dozens that love it. Get over it already.
Bake Shoppe on my friends! Say hey to Melissa and Toni and tell 'em...
Read moreWe have been eating lunch at the Bake Shoppe for a few years and have always had an enjoyable experience, in fact, my daughter thought so much of the place she had her bridal shower there. The last two visits have not been to thier usual standards and I’m not sure if I will go back with so many great options for lunch in the Cypress area.
We went there for lunch today and left with a belly full of mediocrity. We always get the chicken salad. It is by far the best in the area. It’s the reason we go there. Today, they were out. It was 1:30 in the afternoon , slightly after traditional lunch hours, but they have expanded thier hours and you’d think that would mean more of the favorites. We settled on Club sandwiches. We received huge portions for a small combo. More is not always better. The sandwiches were rather pedestrian. The bacon didnt add the texture change you’d expect in a club. The sandwiches was also made on thier signature bread and I’m not sure that helped. The middle layer of toasted bread adds so much to the texture and it was sorely missed.. My daughter ordered pasta salad as a side and they were out of that as well. The chicken and rice soup was decent but nothing that would tempt me to return. The cookie was also average. I remember them being something I’d always look forward to at the end of a great lunch. As a side note to lunch, we brought my granddaughter with us. She is pretty well behaved for a toddler. The quirky design of the place is not real kid friendly. We ended up leaving before we expected as she was the only child in the place and seemed to be “bothering” another table in the area. We received a few “looks” from that direction. Lastly, it was freezing cold inside. The waitress even talked about how cold it was. We are sad to have to end this relationship. It was good...
