One-Day Trip to Dahlonega: The Gold Rush Town in Northern Atlanta

Tried this local BBQ place with some friends today. Got the Brisket plate and a rib with sides of Baked beans and mac n cheese. The food was decent, good flavor on the brisket, the baked beans were fantastic and the mac and cheese was a different twist from the usual as it had a heavy parmesan cheese taste, it wasn't bad just wasn't a hit with me. Had two different service issues that did give me a bad taste. 1st when they brought us our plates, my wife's order was identical to mine just different sides. Our friends had brisket as well but only one of them had ribs. My wife's plate was missing the rib and I told the waitstaff but was abruptly told that wasn't what I ordered. No I'm sorry I missed that, rather I was treated like I was trying to get over on her. No reciept was given so I didn't argue it and was with friends and didn't feel like arguing a fact I knew to be true and later confimed by my wife when she said you said, same order, just different sides. Again a simple apology that it was missed rather than going the way it did. 2nd, when asked for the sauce that was supposed to come with the meal as only my plate out of 4 plates did, the waitstaff member only brought back two sides of sauce. So my my wife missed a rib and had to share sauce with me. Only sweet sauce bottle is on table not the tangy one we had asked for. Are margins that tight on a $18.50 plate plus drinks? I don't know, again kinda soured me on the place and won't likely back. Shame I love BBQ but if it doesn't come with good service why bother going.

Im not sure how to feel about this place- I wasnt in love but wasnt disgusted. My husband and I ordered a bbq plate, brisket plate and had beans, mac & cheese, collared greens and brunswick stew. First impression is PEPPER. The brine on my brisket was great and the meat was falling apart and cooked well, but its almost as if this place doesnt know how to season their food. I left feeling like I ate spicy food because there was THAT much pepper in not only the brisket/brine, nbut also the mac and cheese. The baked beans were great for me, but could have been much hotter. They throw bell pepper and onion in there which I personally loved the taste of. My husband's pork was the epitome of flavorless. I had to drown it in sauce just to enjoy it. He was unimpressed by his collared greens and barely ate half of it. The brunswick stew was a waste of money in my opinion- it smells horrible and wasnt much better in taste although my husband said it was 'good'. I really think this place could be AMAZING if they learned how to flavor their menu better. I feel like a 7 year old was in charge of seasoning my food. Would I return? Maybe if they got some lessons in seasoning- definitely not worth a $50 charge (without tip).

I decided nothing is more American than BBQ on the 4th. So, I went for it. The line was out the door, As to be expected on July 4th! Instead of having my family of 6 join me in the long line and make the restraunt more uncomfortable, my husband waited outside the door with our children. As an elderly couple was making their way to the exit, my husband quickly ran over to hold the door for them . In which, An employee of the BBQ place yells, "SHUT THE DOOR!!" . I gave her an eye.... okay... that didn't settle well.

I was just ready to get my food, get my kids fed, and enjoy the rest of our day.

Next, I get to the counter to order.... I explain my toddler has an anaphylactic egg allergy and I need them to check their Bread for egg. The cashier asks if I can just take a Hotdog with no bun.... mmmm.... no. You can read the ingredients list and I will gladly pay 5.00 for a Hotdog with a bun.... if it has egg... I will figure something else out.

Then, while waiting for our food. I notice one of the employees sweating profusely. She is grabbing gobs of serving napkins and wiping her sweat, Without skipping a beat. She's grabbing food and serving. I get pretty grossed out. I can't help but think sweat is being dripped all over the food and that's why they yell about the door being opened....

We get our food. I ordered for my family of 6. I needed to split our food up. Guess what? The server says, they don't have to go plates. So..... the awesome mom that I am.... wings it. That was was too difficult for so much money and so much time. But, everyone gets fed. So, we're good.

The food review: GROSS! I HAD TO SIPHON through so much fat to get meat from our bbq Pork. It didn't taste smoked. It just tasted plain, unseasoned, and boiled. The potato salad was drenched in Ranch of some sort and the beans were not edible. They were SO SPICY! I felt like I was eating scraps from a strangers plate. Never, again! I will drive all the way to Dawsonville for Big Ds before I ever eat...

I have no idea how this place has been in business since 2000. Worst experience ever, don't waste your time, like we did! Extremely rude staff, very disrespectful to elders and to my handicaped husband! No handicap parking, not handicap accessible, not in ADA compliance! Did not have pork! What BBQ restaurant doesn't have pork?? No children's menu either! Very expensive! Since I didn't have handicap parking, I had to drop my 2 disabled people off and get them seated. Then I had to go back and park my car somewhere on the square. I got back and there were menus at the table, They kept coming by the table asking if everything was okay but no one took our order. Not even a drink order. Finally I went up to the counter and asked if someone was going to be able to take our order. She very rudely pointed to a sign way up in the right side of the wall Up at the ceiling. It said order here. She said if I could read the sign I would have known to order there at the counter. I told her when I got back. Assuming there was menu at the table. There was table service and she got rude with me again and said that all of us had to come to the counter to take our order. I told her it was best for my child to stay seated because of his disability and my husband being and his wheelhair It would be hard to maneuver hands back and fourth. I had to ask my husband loudly across the restaurant what he wanted for sides, She was definitely annoyed about that. The manager came out after I paid for my food and said we were not allowed to eat inside the restaurant, That we made the staff feel uncomfortable. We were asked not to eat in the restaurant that we had to get it to go, I asked for our money back. It took almost five days for the money to come back on my card and it was over fifty dollars. I guess they didn't want a handicaped gentleman and an autistic child in...
